Hey all,

I'm a veteran CS'er, but since BY closed down and the hacks are out of control, I fancied a new game until HL2 / Far Cry comes out. I picked BF 1942 ;).

I need some advice and/or help on the best places to play and what server selection software you use (gamespy etc)? So far, I think the built in server browser is the spawn of satan.

Additionally, the Desert Combat mod looks like great fun (and one of the reasons i bought BF1942) but everytime i connect to a server it punts me back to the desktop?

Any other settings I should know about (connection wise) ?

Soz for the noob questions, but it's always the same with a new game.

Hi Big G, welcome to the wonderful world of Battlefield 1942 :)

I suppose I'd better pimp the brand new BF Jolt servers. They've just been moved over to a new faster box, and are well worth it.

Jolt.co.uk - Secret Weapons|57ms|195.149.21.22:14567
Jolt.co.uk - Philippines|46ms|195.149.21.22:14569
Jolt.co.uk 05 - DC Urban siege|41ms|213.208.119.142:14570
Jolt.co.uk 02 - BF1942 - Caen|83ms|213.208.119.142:14567
Jolt.co.uk 01 - BF1942 v1.6|67ms|195.149.21.61:14567

Each server is on 1.6, with Punkbuster running. The admins (obviously) are brilliant ;). Pop into #bf1942.jolt if you want some more info etc.

I use The All Seeing Eye, http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2/index.html, which I think is the best server browser out there. It supports BF, and with an updated Filters.txt brings it upto 1.6 (right click and Save Target As).

Which version of Desert Combat are you using? The latest one is .6. If you have the latest version, it could be that the server hasn't updated to BF 1.6 as Desert Combat currently has issues with the 1.6 patch. An update to DC is being released on the 6th of Feb, which will make it compatible with 1.6. If the server is running 1.6 and you have the latest version, it could be that you need to enable renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1 in your Videodefault.con file, which can be found in your battlefield1942/mods/bf1942/settings directory.

Thats all I can think of right now. If you have any more questions, pop into either #freddyshouse or #bf1942.jolt and I'll be happy to help.

Cheers,

Cdr.
