Chaps I'm after a new sound card somewhere in the region of £60 doesn't matter if it's PCI or PCI-E. I've looked at the Asus Xonar DX 7.1, Creative X-FI Xtreme Gamer and Xtreme Music.

So suggestions?

Sorry no links due lack of iPhone cut+paste.

Avoid the X-Fi imo, go for one of the Xonar's, cracking cards and of course in PCI-E flavour. Better drivers, better component quality, more all round options.

Isn't the onboard sound card any good? Just asking as these days it doesn't really seem necessary to get a Sound card to me...

onboard! my on board even does real time DTS encoding, which is fuckin handy via coax/optical SPDIF to my surround amp stack.

Well It arrived and installed fine. Thus far only one slight problem being that when using the Front Audio header it does not auto switch and mute to headphones and has to be maunally selected while the on-board did :)
