Been looking to get a new one after this is about 10 years old now, think it's run its time. I'm wanting to spend around £700, I have a Samsung 840 Pro 120gb SSD and a couple of Samsung Spinpoint 750gb 7200rpm SATA's so I'm not sure I need to upgrade the HDD? Anyway, I was looking at Tom's Hardware forums but the site seems to have some nasty ad's of late and over the last few weeks has reduced its functionality if you run an adblocker, or the adblocker is deciding to not show links to forum sections? Bit odd, anyway...

I'd like to the use PC to play games like Dark Souls 3, Witcher 3, DOTA, etc. and listen to music & browse & office, etc.

I found a site I hadn't seen before which seems super helpful. Pick parts. Build your PC. Compare and share. - PCPartPicker United Kingdom

And this is the build I'm thinking of getting, what do you guys think? Other better alternatives? I don't really want to spend more then £700 , I left the HDD they suggest in, incase it is something that's required.

I would say your current SSD and HDDs will be usable, though 120gb isn't all that much for putting a lot of games on. I'd recommend ditching the 2tb hdd from the build, as your current ones should be fine, and instead get a bit more SSD storage in there. There's a m.2 pcie slot on the motherboard, so if you can get an SSD that fits there, it should give you an even faster boot time than your current SSD would, and a bit more space for games, so you can get more on SSD that will benefit from the faster loading speeds.

I'd up the CPU to a 1600X for £75. Much better CPU and more future-proof. You could do it by ditching the HDD and then adding a big SSD later when you've got money again.

Because you can pick up a 1TB m2 for £300 now. It will be even less in 6 months.

Thanks guys,

Hmm if I add the 1600x I need to get a CPU cooler too, which I guess I'd do to get some better OC anyway? I have an old Noctua NH-C12P Socket 775, AM2, AM2+ Processor Cooler but I guess it's not fast enough nowadays. When adding most coolers it seems the motherboard wants: CPU Cooler may require a separately available mounting adapter to fit the MSI - B350M PRO-VDH Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard. Those m2 hdd's are super fast right?

I don't think the "X" versions come with a cooler. Check before you order.
I've been looking at the 1700 non "X" for this reason.

Is that motherboard going to be compatible with the ryzen refresh coming up?

But they've just reduced the prices on current ryzens so I'd say it's fine to buy one now. There's always something coming soon.

Agreed, I'm just thinking about the ability to drop in an updated chip going forward

They stated that the AM4 socket should be around for a while.

The Amazon listing "did" say it had a cooler, but now it doesn't.
Everywhere I've looked except that listing there is no Wraith. That is why I'm getting the non "X", and you could always clock it if you want.

Edit before posting: Try this :)

Looks like you're right. It definitely used to say it had a wraith but now it's more mixed. There's mention of it half-way down the page but that looks like a cut and paste of generic blurb. The Q&A section says it doesn't have one.

In that case either shell out £25 for a reasonable cooler or go with the 1600 and try overclocking it with the Wraith that comes with it.

Fucking Amazon.

And yes. M2 ssds are super quick and dinky.
^This - you need to be really careful when buying them however as they have lots of different versions with different plugs/sizes.

Think I'm getting priced out on other parts :( 8gb ddr4 3000 is £100 at least, the ram I had originally posted is never in stock and the 1060 6gb's have gone up by £30 this month

Guess I'll have to become a console scrub for now :(

My dinner tonight. Beetroot salad thing. Chicken with the smallest yorkie u ever saw and some big wedges. And the side salad almost made the pic.

Could do with being more substantial tbh but nice.

Oh and a glass of bog standard merlot that was 12 quids hehe
