Bricked my Sony. It got slighly damp in a pocket - despite it supposedly being waterproof down to 5 meters and Sony selling it in their advertising with people swimming under the sea and taking photos of each other.

Go figure. :\

So, other than: no fucking sony (ever again - I bought two of these at the same time and my g/f had to replace hers ages ago, both of them have been back to the shop at least once too) - any recommendations?

Want:

Waterproof.
Decent Camera.
Decent battery life.

End of. (Although not having to replace all my fucking chargers again would be a bonus).

Suggestions oh gods of ridiculously expensive consumer lifestyle devices? :)

Nokia 8 ticks most of those boxes and is pretty cheap atm

Performs better in reviews than the latest Samsung S9 (euro Exynos edition) and is half the price

Plus its stock Android so no bloatware

If you can wait the new wave of phones with latest snapdragon chips are coming out over next few months and they are looking really nice

I just went for the Samsung S9+ after two years with a Sony phone, which never felt right to me.

My new phone is superb. The camera is amazing and keeps surprising me with what it can do.

The battery is bigger than the regular S9 and it easily lasts a day with heavy use. yes, I still play Pokemon Go, and it drains batteries fast, but the S9+ handles it really well. With the fast charger you can get a full battery within an hour or so. It is crazy fast. Also has wireless charging.

I've dropped it a couple is times, and the metal casing got some nicks, but nothing on the screen, so far.

Bit pricey tho. It's just a phone after all. Any other ideas?

How much do you want to spend then?

Samsung S8 is going for £609 direct from Samsung.

Get an iPhone or perhaps an older Samsung model, if what you're looking for is just decent.

Wife has an iPhone 7+ and it more than fulfils the criteria you have set up.

Also your existing phone is also IP68, so 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. After a phone is 3 years old, I would expect that to be zero metres for zero minutes :)

It's not just the waterproofing @Bodhi - had 3 of the fuckers and Sony build quality has been utter shite on several fronts. Never again.

That is the problem..pople wont update because the updates nearly always fuck up your phone , slow it down or simply mess with everything for no good reason.
They should legislate that all security updates are seperate to phone fucking interface bodging they all do.

In all my years of getting updates on Xperias, I can remember 1 that caused issues with Location Services and caused battery life to tank, other than that, they've done exactly what they say on the tin.

So why wouldn;t you update?

Oh. It's Job. NM...

I had a phone in my back pocket once, on a bender; sat on it. It was destroyed.

I wouldn't buy a phone off Amazon.
Amazon is flooded by so much
counterfeit Chinese crap now. You don't really know what you're going to get.
