New PC new Problems :/

just built my new pc,

Amd 2400+ (2.0gig)
512 ram
Geforce 4 ti 4600 128mb

Asus a7n8x nforce 2 deluxe motherboard.
Windows 2000

i have 2 major problems,

1.

Processor speed, when i boot (and on system tools) it says its an Amd 1800+, and when i check what speed my processor is running at it says 1500, which is right for a 1800+ amd, but this is a 2400+ (got retail box set infront of me saying 2400+ in big letters).

2.

when windows starts to load, (win 2k) it takes ages... takes about minute - 2 minutes. i believe this is because of network adapters having a long timeout.. but cant find a fix to problem.

Please can ne one help with either problem?

Check ur bios and see what it says? In terms of FSB cpu clock etc etc.

Windows 2k pro? Server? what version and what network adapters etc etc all information would be helpful

Also right click on my computer what cpu it say u have there?

check your MB manual for FSB speed, I once bought a CT133 mb but default setting on mb was 100mhz not 133 as indicated in the name, thus my 1.3ghz processor was running 1ghz ;) might be the same problem you have, if FSB speed on MB is jumper controlled you might have to move the jumper manually

Try downloading the latest Bios, which will probably (hopefully!) recognise your 2400+ and adjust it's settings accordingly.

the network drivers are from the motherboard,, 3com ones i think.

its win2k professional, and it says 1800+ everywhere, unless a run a program to tell me its exact running speed which shows its running at 1500.

and updating bios is annoying, the autoupdate bios program asus give, does not work.. trys to connect to servers and fails to find any thing, but states there is somthing there.

tried looking on asus website, but cant figure out which drivers i need.

as for checking bios , there are 3 diff options effecting cpu, hell if i know what to do with em :/ manual dont really help. tells you what they are, not how / what to change em to.

thanks for feed back :p

Like cadire said check it has the right FSB setting if not adjust accordingly or get the latest bios either automaticly or do it urself :p

Check here for how to flash ur bios and get the latest bios version here. that bios update supports new cpus try that and see what happens

Cpu External Freq (Mhz) = 100mhz

underneath that said mutliple was 12.5x/13c in black(unchangeable)

as for fsb setting that was set to disabled

i cant update bios! i tried, sinse i am on win2k i could not run awdflash from ms dos prompt in windows, i made a boot disk, but could not fit avd flash and bios on it, and from what i just been told its not the problem.

Been told setting it to 13.5 x 133 would work, but it only takes it to about 1.7.. its supposed to run at 2.0 !

remind you that current settings is

Cpu External Freq (Mhz) = 100mhz
Cpu Multiple Setting = [Auto]

underneath that said mutliple was 12.5x/13c in black(unchangeable)

as for fsb setting that was set to disabled
