'Battle of Britain Map Announced
In this new Battlefield 1942 map, German forces must disable four RAF radar towers as well as the heavily-protected Harwich Weapons Factory on the coast of England. If the British can defend these targets until the German tickets run out, they can wrest victory from the jaws of defeat. With one new vehicle and one new weapon entering the fray, the Battle of Britain is set to be Battlefield 1942's fiercest campaign yet.

Stay tuned to this page as we release more info on this new map in the coming days...'

The map is released today! (11th July)

Bit more info taken from the BF site;

'England's Darkest Hour, Your Finest Moment
Great Britain’s mighty empire is on the brink of collapse as wave after wave of German Luftwaffe bombing raids take their toll on the coast of England. The Axis goal is to soften British defenses in preparation for an eventual, all-out invasion. Only the brave men of the Royal Air Force stand in the way.
In the new Battle of Britain map for Battlefield 1942, the Germans must disable the Royal Air Force's (RAF) four coastal radar towers as well as the Harwich Weapons Factory. Protected by several anti-aircraft batteries, the factory will be no easy target for the Luftwaffe. If the British can defend the objectives until the German tickets run out, they can wrest victory from the jaws of defeat.

To make it more interesting, The Battle of Britain map brings two powerful new weapons to the fray. Players on the German side can unleash the devastating attack of the Junkers Ju88 (see image), a heavy bomber used in every theater of WWII. This versatile aircraft holds a crew of four, one pilot/bomber and three gunners, making it a formidable force in the air. Balancing the odds, the British get the all-new Radar Tower (see image) to help counter this attack. When you enter a radar tower, your game map includes a radar sweep that detects any vehicle above the radar. But be wary -- the radar does not sweep the skies below the tower, creating a significant gap through which German bombers can make a stealthy approach.

In the new Battle of Britain map for Battlefield 1942, whether England falls into darkness or rises to victory is up to you.

The Battle of Britain Map will be available FREE for download on July 11, 2003 right here from battlefield1942.ea.com.

NOTE: THIS MAP WILL ONLY WORK WITH PATCH 1.4 INSTALLED. IF YOU HAVE NOT YET PATCHED YOUR GAME WITH 1.4, THE MAP WILL NOT BE PLAYABLE.'

Tally-ho!

Me, or one of the FTP admins will get this on the FTP as soon as it is released. You never know, we may even be able to get it into rotation on the servers if we're real nice.

It will be in the rotation, its more a question of when than if :).

If it is released before 5pm GMT it usually makes it onto the server the same day.

I think it's the primary fire button - not tried it myself - only realised it had a horn just before I came out for a break :)

So, is it any good?

Well as a flyboy - I think its great, nothing better than seeing a mass of JU-88s comming over with a load of 109s covering (well, when I say covering, I mean flying in the general direction - still had the same effect tho :D ).

Good addition to the BF library - may become my fav map :)

I had a go on a 32 player server earlier. Unfortunately I was stuck on Allied, which meant me and two others manning AA whilst everyone else stood on the runway and got bombed by Junkers.

Still, nice of them to give us more vehicles without having to buy an addon that's not played by anyone else in the world.

I really, really, really hate this new map. Germans kept on winning 10-1 or 10-0, most unbalanced map I've ever played on a FPS before, and it seems like the junkers have too much life and there is too much AA.

I agree about the health of the junkers. Chased one for 40 seconds, and took it down after using 400 rounds of ammo.

It'd be nice as well if the radar towers showed enemy aircraft on everyone's map, instead of just the AA guy manning it.

played for an hour or two tonight on the allied side (i suck in planes) the flak totally owns if you know what you're doing.

was funny sniping ppl with the engi rifle after they had bailed :)

as a diversion it's a decent map but tbh most of the standard BF maps are better.

Hit the JU88s in the right place and you can take them down no problem - a map that is so heavily dependent on a persons air-to-air capability, is not gonna go down well with people who generally dont like air-to-air combat.

I like it, and its certainly better than 'grad or kharkov / kursk.

Like most maps tho, if you have a shit team, its gonna be unbalanced - get a few decent pilots on your side and you'll win.

Ive played this map twice, the first time the Axis, who were losing, were wailing how it was totally biased to the Allies and was almost un-winnable.
The second time the Allies were wailing the the map was totally biased towards the Axis etc etc :)
Me ? I don't like the planes much, but all the same I did enjoy the map :)

TBH the axis can win this map if they stick together with bombing targets, however on the EA servers this never tends to happen :(

They should all go for the radars from left to right and then the factory using real steep dives thus keeping the spread of bombs tight.

The bias of this map is heavily dependent on the initial ticket level - it doesn't matter how many tickets the allies have, but if axis start with anything close to 1000 tickets, the allies have virtually no chance of defending all 5 positions before axis tickets run out!

Another thing that bugs me - why can't allies spawn at the airfields?! Those look like barrack buildings to me!! Hmph!

I think it's to give the whole 'scramble' type effect of the BoB. Yes, they should really be on airfield already, but it does add something extra, jumping into a jeep with the air-raid sirens going off, and high-tailing it to the airfield.

True but it also causes a problem since you end up spawning at the last target, often getting killed before you move an inch ;)

Just realised - this is the first 'official' map that's actually from before 1942. Does that mean we can look forward to Dunkirk and Pearl Harbor?

Well if they try and make they realistic then they'll be very unfair ;)

heh, I dont think anything in BF can be classed as realistic :D

Personal bug bear of mine......
WRONG MK. SPITFIRES IN THE BoB MAP- ARGHRGRAHRGHRG!!!!

Glad to have gotten that off my chest :)

It would be nice to see pre-1942 stuff in there - but I'm guessing this will be the last official map for sometime - they'll be busy working on BF:V and BF:SW. Which I must say, BF:V is looking quite sexeh, and hopefully wont be the pure 'shit' (for want of a better word) that RtR was :)
