New Medal of Honour games

Yes, we could think that they are milking the series, but as long as they keep it original it should be interesting

The EA LA team plans to follow Allied Assault's successful gameplay approach of combining scripted cinematic moments with slightly slower-paced action sequences, all of it enlivened by a healthy dose of historical authenticity. The key scene comparable to Allied Assault portrayal of D-Day will be the first mission in Pearl Harbor, and we might expect that to be the first demo level we'll see. In the middle of the chaos, as innumerable Japanese planes tear into anchored Pacific fleet, you'll play a part by saving lives, shooting down planes, and taking out torpedoes before they hit their targets. Still, there's no way you can turn the tide alone, and just maybe it's one of the torpedoes that got away from you that dealt the fatal blow to the USS Arizona

Yea, if you're going to make shit realistic-ish war games, you might as well use a decent war... WW2 is boring and overdone.

You mean like Global Thermonuclear War or something

Game lasts about 20 seconds

Anyone played Vietcong? I think it's quite good actually. Conflict: Desert Storm isn't bad either.

Id be interested to hear what people believe would be a 'decent war' to base an fps on.

Ok weve been inundated with WW2 games recently but I cant think of one actual other war that has enough variety and diversity to warrent a full game.

Im keen to see what Vietcong will be like, but Im predicting jungle, jungle and more jungle with a sprinkling of tunnel and more jungle

WWII does it for me. It's high tech enough to give some pace (WWI? Jump out of trench, die. Jump out of trench, die. American Civil War? Walk in a line. Die. Walk in a line. Die), and not so recent that its politically tasteless or a button-pushing turkey shoot.

You could do 'alternative history' wars (Iron Storm, OpFlash) and there's probably a lot of mileage in those, or you go futuristic, which gives you some creative weapons choices.

I'd like to see a good Western though; cowboys and injuns would be cool (although there might be some 'balance' issues in multiplayer).

Darn tootin'!

I like the MoH series a lot. Cracking simgle-player games. No doubt I'll end up buying it, but isn't it about time the Quake III engine died? Personally I'm looking forward to the first WWII game based on the UT2003/U2 engine.

Nice.

the English civil war, would be a great FPS, mainly because the loading times of games would take ages and inspire a tactical aspect to the game.

Also the Napolanic wars.

But as MOH is concerned, I can't wait to see how the Co-Op turns out, the only other decent co-op FPS is Halo

Doesn't that call for an engine to developed thats better than it.

Is the new unreal engine better?

Also the fact that many level editors have been released for the quake engine could be seen as a point in its favour.

Maybe the new doom will push the genre further. :D

the New Unreal engine is better, the Quake 3 engine, is used mainly because its easier to manipulate than any other FPS engines, thats why all Quake 3 engine games look completely different. e.g Heavy Metal Fakk 2 looks different to Quake 3 That looks different to Return to Castle Wolfenstein which loks different to Jedi Knight 2 Etc.....

But look at UT and Deus Ex, they look very similar.

However, surely the same is true of the Unreal/UT/UT2K3 engine, as shown by Deus Ex, Duke Nukem Forever (as and when it comes out) and Splinter Cell?

I reckon that if you go through the archives and find the decleration of war for WW2 it was written on EA watermarked paper. :)

It is the perfect war (in a money making tasteless sense) because it has all the best bits, the planes the tanks the ships the submarines there all there in a way that still requires some skill to use, you have your major battles like Omaha, Pearl Harbour etc etc. The enemy really was a nasty enemy theres no way someone can turn around and say "Hey killing Nazis is rascist" there your equivalent to Aliens in computer games in that you can mow them down over and over and its still ok :)

The best bit about WW2 games tho... You get the Garand :D

A FPS game based on the Sharpe novels... Now that'd be a game :) Except that with the large amount of hand-to-hand combat, and the muzzel-loading weapons, it would probably suck from a first-person viewpoint :(
