Yeah, the only problem is that it requires a bloody expensive X58 motherboard, and stupidly pricey DDR3 Ram.

yes more expensive but think im going to upgrade to an i7 based setup. and free my self of this atom based pc.

Up to you, but for price/performance you are probably better off with Core2 + A P45 mobo + DDR2.

It is the cutting edge and in reality there has to be a leap first before prices become more reasonable towards the middle half of next year, this effect should also mean DDR3 prices will start coming down as production is increased.

As for games it isn't in reality quite that simple, for example in Far Cry 2 at the resolutions people are likely to be playing at it isn't any faster than a QX9770 although naturally different tests give different results:

I am of the opinion that the i7 is shaping up to be very good, although I suspect I might delay any change until Westmere.
