New Graphix card.

Currently i have a Radeon 9800. And i want to get a new one as it doesn't run games like bf2 very well, all the graphics are pretty crap. But the thing is, i don't really know anything about graphics cards, so i don't know which one to get, which fits in my pc, or anything really. But ive been looking at one, and i want to ask you guys if this is any good, will it last me a couple of years, and also, will it fit into my pc?

ps. i have never 'modded' my pc before except for putting a stick of ram in which was easy, so do you think i should get a proffesional to do it?

Good lord no!!!

The 9550 is slower than the 9800. It is similar in performance to a 9600.

As long as the card is marked AGP, it will almost certainly fit your card. For the cheaper end I would look at the x800 range of agp cards (note some are pcie make sure its AGP) or if you have a bit more bread a card like a 7800GS.


Changing AGP cards is very easy.

Step 1: uninstall your current video drivers
Step 2: turn off PC
Step 3: Ground yourself (optional virtually no chance of static dmg when doing this operation)
Step 4: Remove the power supply connecter. Rip the existing card out, replace with new card. AGP cards have a little lever near the slot on the side furtherest from the edge. PUll on it to take the card out. When you press the new one into place you should hear a slight 'click' sound.
Step 5: Reattach power supply to graphics card
Step 6: boot and install drivers.

Voila new card in!

i just don't know anything, i just thought it was better than mine because its 256 mb and mines 128 mb

How much are you willing to spend and what are the rest of the comp specs? 9800pro (if that's what you have) should be good enough card to run BF2 really :S

It can run it, just all the colours are fucked.
My comp spec is:
P4 3 GHz
1GB ram
120GB hard drive
9800 pro

almost... step 3 is kinda important always... and step 4.1, disconnect the monitorcable.
step 4.leverthingy: you gotta push that little white lever thingy towards the motherboard, not pull it

My personal tip is to throw away whatever software, drivers and freebie crap came with your card, and go direct to the manufacturers websight and download the latest drivers before starting
