I'm looking for a new graphics card to run Deus Ex 2 / Halflife 2 / Doom 3 (what a depressing list of sequels). As cheap as possible. I was looking at a 9600XT, but there is a lot of card choice.

Recommend me a card please.

How cheap? For around the £100 you can get a 9800 pro these days.

Is that better? I was looking for around £100-£120. The best I can get for the money, please. :)

Yes the 9800 pro is far better than the 9600XT. Have a good look around all the e-tailers, some very cheap 9800 pro boards going these days -including some with 256mb of RAM -which those games should take advantage of.

I've not upgraded in two years, so I'm a little out of touch. I used to be such a technology geek too.

Ah, the 256MB models are about £250...I'll go with the cheaper 128MB...though my GF4 is 256MB, a chame I can't just move it across.

I got me a 9800Pro 128Mbs a few weeks ago. Nice card, far better than my GF3 :)

V Good at DX games, IE: Far Cry etc, which happily is the majority of games. OpenGL games (D3 etc) are better on the equivalent Nvidia board though.

Heh, yeah I checked the prices again, I swear they must have gone up. Its actually cheaper to buy some x800 256mb boards than the 9800 pro versions :)
