News from Valve

Valve have released details on forthcoming Steam updates

The changes in this release are directed at reducing the problem some users are experiencing with sound stuttering. The sound stuttering is not indicative of a sound problem, sound stuttering is only a symptom of texture thrashing on your video card or AGP memory. For information on how to reduce texture thrashing visit this link on our support site:

http://steampowered.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=280

This update will fix sound stuttering that users were experiencing that would last for longer than a few seconds during normal gameplay. This update will also eliminate this same behavior following a quicksave or autosave. There will still be a short pause while the autosave happens, but not the more drawn out stuttering behavior.

We are still investigating another performance problem on some hardware, which will manifest where the game is getting into a state where performance drops to less than 5 fps and does not recover or crashes.

Next week we will be releasing the Source SDK, along with a surprise for the community.

Although what the surprise is is anybodys guess

HL2:dm is teh win!

Gravity gun fights are great. Throwing a flaming barrel at someone is fun but shooitng someone while they're holding a flaming barrel is even more fun!

HEAD SHOT WITH A RADIATOR!! :)

HL2DM = win! Only problem atm is the lack of maps, rest of it is really fun.

Excellent game, especially now some decent servers are about, with no lag.

Gravity gun is a right laugh, I like to fling peoples genades back at them when they are thrown at me :D Hopefully they bring out a few more maps soon too.

Never been much into DM type games to be honest, would rather play something that at least nods in the direction of tactics.

Having said that though HLDM is the best of its type that I have played, nice looking and smooth even on my aging system. Infact it works a lot better than CS:S. The gravity gun makes all the difference.

Good for a quick 15-30 min blast I think

Hmm why are you guys claiming that dm games got no tactics?

We are ofc speaking tdm for clanbattles where a big part of the tactics rely on 2 things: controlling the weapon/armor spawns and controlling the spawn points for players. It doesnt matter how good you are when you are up against another player when you got 0 armor and a lousy pistol when he is pumped full of armor and pointing a shotgun to your face :)

As an 'old school' hldm player i have been looking forward to hl2 for quite some time, and i got quite a bit dissapointed by the hl2dm side of the game. Sure its fun to blast a toilet in the back of a player but thats about it. Luckily there are some dudes working on Adrenaline Gamers 2 for HL2. AG1 was a dm mod for hl1. Actually it wasnt any different from the original game but it added some functionality for clanwars and some different games modes like Last Team Standing (LTS) wich is much like rocket arena for q3. When thoose pesky cs players started whining about bunnyhopping valve patched so it wasnt possible any longer, but luckily AG1 kept that function hehe :)

AG2 include many of theese old features and also have many of the HL2DM features in it. Its not completely decided what will be kept at what will be removed/rebalanced, but one thing is for sure, they will be adding longjump (jump assist) and bunnyhopping, and ofc alot of different gamemodes! And above all... the gameplay will be fast... VERY fast :D

So check it out at http://www.adrenaline-gamer.com/ and keep yourselves updated :)

Was fun for a couple of hours, but I have to say, I'm disappointed. The movement is practically geriatric, closer to CS than a DM game. No assists to speed it up either (like the Longjump and gauss). Will have to look to AG2 to make the movement more fluid, because I can't stay awake playing the game as it is now.

The DM is good fun for a wee shoot out. I like it for using all the HL2 guns.

However what i dislike is when you leave your spawnpoint then the second later someone could spawn there and shoot you as your just leaving.
