Kinag, you really want to go the Conroe route bud, the graphics card is only really important if you want to do alot of high resolution gaming with great framerates. If it is mainly for your 3D rendering then the Conroe is what will make the world of difference, not a 6800GT/7900GT or anything else. The graphics card only accelerates the preview and build modes, it does nothing for render times at all. If you only want to play the occasional games at 1280x1024 then a much cheaper graphics card will do you fine, a £300 graphics card is total overkill unless you want to be gaming at 1600x1200+ with AA and AF on.

The first computer I posted in the thread costs this much: 1264 Euro

The last one I posted costs: 1705.31 EUR

Not sure if the gfx card and the CPU is worth 450 euro.

Going Conroe will give you about roughly 30% more performance in 3D MAX rendering, time is money and the less time you are sat waiting for renders to complete the more productive you will be. The graphics card is your personal choice based on how much gaming you want to do and at what resolution. If you are happy at 1280x1024 then you really don't need a fast bastard 3D card ;) Conroe is a must though :)

yea, for rendering get yerself a decent CPU, i personally would spend around the £100-125 mark on the gfx card. get yerself an SLI compatible one, then sometime in the future (if you see the need) add a second to the equation.

I'll see if I'll build one with the Intel CPU then, no idea what conroe means though :p

I'll be gaming alot as well as using 3D animations with 3D studio Max.. but my 19" screen only supports 1280x1024 :p

conroe is the core2duo

but in your last setup, you have an ide drive? why?

and also, if you do video editing, rendering, stocking on lossless video, get two drives, one for data, one smaller (and faster one) just for the operating system, it pays off, trust me

Sigh, more money :(

And why not use an IDE harddrive?

Well.. Lower transfer rates than S-ATA. S-ATA also uses smaller cables, which leads to better airflow in your computer.. And the list goes on.

S-ATA is worth it for the cables alone

and as for the separate data disk
if you are performing a hd intensive task like reading or writing a video and you want to for example start up another program its gonna totally choke your whole system if you only have one drive, a single drive cant handle the separate read/write write/write read/read tasks effectively

2x 250GB wouldnt cost more than 1x 400GB I think, and if it does its by a very small margin.

If you are on a budget, go for an E6400, dont necessarily have to take the E6600, its still a 100 euro difference there, and then the cheapest 7900GT you can find, and you´ll be fine.

I've always used IDE when I built computers, even back 4 years ago.

I Must say though, I Haven't built more than 1 computer in the past 4 years :p

Went to an computer course and built around 30, all used IDE except in a server we built.

Times change as do the hardware.

I'll see what I can do about putting together something new.

Would 2 36gb Raptors set on raid 0 be a viable option for this setup?

I'm sticking with this one, it's not the 7950GTX card it's a normal 7900.

One problem is that not all of these parts are available until 20th August, and I need my computer in about middle of august :-/

It will cost me about 1196.99 GBP or 1753.76 EUR if you prefer Euros :p

1x Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz Socket LGA775, 4MB, BOXED m/vifte
1x MSI P965 Platinum, P965, Socket-775 Firewire,SATAII,ATX,GbLAN,DDR2,PCI-Ex16
2x Corsair TWIN2X 5400 DDR2, 1024MB PC5400 Kit w/two matched CM2X512-5400C4 Dimm's
1x XFX GeForce 7900GTX 512MB GDDR3 eXtreme, PCI-Express, 2xDVI/HDTV, 675/1700Mhz
2x Samsung SpinPoint P120S 250GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM
1x Cooler Master Cavalier 3, Sort Kabinett, Aluminium Front (Uten Strømforsyning)
2x Arctic Cooling Fan Pro 2L TC, Blå LED, 80x80x34,5mm, Vifte m/Temperaturkontroll
1x Fortron Source Epsilon 600W, Blå Vifte, Active PFC, ATX/EPS, SLI, 20/24pin

Do you think this will cut it then? :p

It's hell of alot of money for a computer, never used this much on it before, but if my future will be working with high-end graphics and 3D game design then this SHOULD work fine for a couple of years atleast. Agree?

Btw, will I need something else if I'll run 2x S-ATA HD's? Perhaps some S-ATA connectors (though I would think they follow with the motherboard which supports S-ATA II.

Looks fine? :-s

I was hoping for a rather extreme pc for that price and considering the motherboard + CPU ain't even out yet :p

Atleast the people in the store where I saw the first computer in the thread said that I should build my own with the setup I mentioned above.

Guess you guys know alot afterall ;p

Finally I can run cata models and fraps at once without lag :p

Perhaps even dual log while frapsing? xD

How much does that 7900GTX cost? For 360€ you can get 7900GX2 which is almost as fast as 7950GX2

Go for 7900GX2 if it fits in your comp (~31cm long card :p) and you dont have problems with ordering stuff from Germany.

I rather buy stuff from my own country as it won't take weeks to get it sent over :p

I wouldnt spend that much money on the gfx-card right now. I dunno where you order from, but I assume komplett.no, go for a 6600GT demo-card for 70 euro or something like that and put away some money to buy a DX10-card when they are out.

I got a 6600 GT atm, but I just want a card that will do quite well atleast 2 years ahead, and from what I've gathered, that card mentioned earlier will.

Might aswell save a lil and get a 7900GT then, either that or go for a budget and wait for DX10 cards. Your choice though ofc.
