new changes for DAOC

hi all. i thought about something that i think would make daoc better .... .

as you all can see the 4-5 biggest servers are all german / francai...

but what about that GOA/MYTHIC made it so you self can choose if you wanna play on maybe avalon, then if you like it to be on eng,fra,ger, ??...

i really wanna play the big servers like so many others i cant understand fra, or ger...)..........

so when entering a server a box will pop, telling you to choose what language you want

Germans and french are usally so deep inside thiere own asses that they refuse to speak english, thus making communicating harder. And the language is serverside so you can't really change it from client to client.

I heard theres one server where theres alot of english speaking people playing hib realm, believe its a german server, not sure.

Would be nice if client had stuff in english, spell names etc, only reason I've not gone to play hib there was cause of not understanding any of the game msgs and icon names. :<

ok.. just gonna be hard as i cant make the quest because i dont understand german ... but as im playing alb/pryd , mid/excl, then i think its gonna be hib/ava.. even that i saw 2000 online on avalon, and only 300 of then was hibs, and albs got all relics :s.. but the new patch i released tomorrow morning

There is a language folder in DAoC, so some messages will come out in french if you have the french folder for example when you climb it wont say "You start climbing" in english but in french, even on english servers... If that made sence

So... you will get some messages in english, but stuff like quests etc will be french and the people will speak french, so not worth it if you cant speak the language...

I blame bad coding... Having clientside language files wouldn't be of much trouble to program afaik, I have done similar things while programming websites using .php and stylesheets, ofc this would require much larger language files for a game than for a small website.

ofc, if this is only a GoA feature, the translation process from the original gamecodes by Mythic will be a lot harder and take more time, thus making the costumer even more impatient.

Actually, mythic should just make their client fully multi-lingual.
If you know how you can log in with the US game.dll (as long as it's the same version as the game server).

I tried to find a work-around on the white-name bug, so I just got the 1.70 game.dll from the US version and ta-daa! Normal names. However, there were some.. anomalies. Some things didn't respond (doors, switches) and some NPC's weren't clickable.

It would be nice if Mythic actually created one server and one client, have it fully multilingual with an US-English text library, require GoA to run on the same OS/Hardware, and we wouldn't have such a long patching delay.

I played on a german server once with my chanter.. three ppl came up and said something on german with the word gruppe in it and a question mark. I asumed they asked me if I wanted to join their grp.

I answered: "Sure, I don't speak any german tho so bear with me."

All three turned around and left without a word xD

so i bet german and french peeps are most of nice peeps but there is allways few who spoil community.

Some deperate guys do that when we do an artifact they want to do (they stand there solo and yell go back to your servers or smth ), but most are generally nice and we(Nocturne) group with alot of different germans in rvr and it work out nice.

However, I heard rumors about Camlann being able to swap to german, french for German and French players in 1.71. It was a rumor I know but can still hope.

Any gm who can comment on this? And if so, when they can make camlann french/german for them, can we make Avalong english for us?

1. There are friendly folks and less friendly folks in all countries; lets at least keep these forums friendly.

2. The idea is a good one but highlights a key point : languages.

3. Whilst Mythic have only announced server clustering and iRvR for the US servers the language issue would be one they would - I suspect - simply have to ignore.

4. European servers are more heavily populated the US servers. Pryd with 700 would be in the top 4 servers in the US ....

5. And of course they would have to sort things out with GoA and inevitably there would be the question of who pays.

Actually Tuppe, many french people (not saying everyone, but many as admitted by many french people i know myself) simply diss english. They say they don't/won't need it and don't want to learn it because their own language is sufficient. I call that ignorance. English is globalising language in Europe, people just have to live with it. Besides it's one of the easiest languages to learn already due all the english material floating around.

But of course that's majorly offtopic It's french server, they speak french: simple. Just like i speak finnish in /gu or /s if speaking with guildies/other finns. And of course get called a racist for being in a national guild

tbh if im playing on a french / german server i at least try and find my german and french phrase books and try to speak the language learn a few phrases to get along, but it takes time to learn a second or even third language and i wouldnt be abusive to anyone who spoke somthing else.

I would never scream "OMG ENGLISH" at anyone i would just wait or look it up using babelfish it really isnt that hard to be considerate.
