Bought a 1990 Rover 1.6si with a honda engine for the princely sum of £50. Still got it after 18 months, it's about to sail through it's mot and cruises at 100mph, doing up to 120 if I push it. You can keep your beamers and your audis - find a rover made with a honda engine and you'll never buy a better value car :p

I voted for the 5er BMW. You had an A8 before, so you're most likely in for a car which offers some nice luxury and BMW's are very good cars. A friend of mine's dad has only BMW's and they offer good service aswell. Just the 7er have minor problems with the computer sometimes.

I got a Punto myself so I didn't vote for them :p Ofc, the advantage is, that this thing is very small and handy, so easy to use in the city, but on the highways you'll miss the power. I don't have the low-end model (got the medium one), but still I'd like some more acceleration sometimes (let's don't lie, sometimes = all the time). But if you need it for city driving only, it feels very good to drive and it's not a car that gets easily stolen or braked into, it's also rather cheap on fuel/insurance/taxes (at least here in Germany).

Oh and if you want something else, Citroen C5 looks awesome and is really nice, but never drowe that (sadly) :(

EDIT: Bracken, get an MGF then with...Ford motor I think? =)

EDIT2: Don't buy Opel (or Vauxhall in England), they stink and are much too expensive imho.

Personally, I went for Ford Focus.

Though I'd have to say 3 door, old shape, and not silver or white.

Very fun car to throw around a road considering it's cost and the space inside.

I saw a nice looking A8 in a dealership in Harrogate. Paid £340 for the RAC to inspect it. Thank God I did. It seems to be more trashed than mine!

I walked away. I called the salesman, he sounded like he half expected it.

Trust no one where 2nd hand cars are concerned!!

Return of The Deer Hunter

Well, my car was written off & the cheque banked.

I've looked at all sorts of cars (including other A8s) and not found anything which matched my original.

Then the Insurance company rang me and asked if I wanted to buy it ahead of the salvage company and repair it myself.

The cost of buying it back + repairs = the cheque they gave me, so I'm gewtting my baby back! Yay!

Pity they couldn't just have repaired it in the first place. It wouldn't have cost them a penny more!!

Hopefully get it back in a couple of weeks.
