Right my current N-reg Golf GTi, whilst still running fine is getting a bit tired. It's got 145k on the clock and it ain't getting any younger. It needs some new brakes, a new tyre, the tax is about to run out and I really have to force it into 1st gear. It's this last bit that worries me the most as reading a couple of dub forums it seems a lot of major gearbox problems start in this way costing £500 upwards, so there are bills on the way. I also really fancy a VR6. So I've been a bit of digging around and found the VR6 in the link below. It seems ideal, with Recaro sports interior and the right mods on it and it looks in superb condition. Hopefully gonna go see it friday if it's still there, shall try and book an appointment in the morning. Anyway, thoughts/suggestions? Anyone ever had a VR6 got anything to look out for?

Nice cruiser but a bit soft on the twisties. I preferred the VR6 Corrado but a good one is like hens teeth.

That's what I like about this one it's had the suspension replaced with a much stiffer set up should keep it nice and keen round roundabouts.

Looks alright, just go over it with a fine toothed comb and ensure it's all good.

I loved my VR6, it suited me fine, but I always knew it needed a bit more oomph and a stiffer suspension to be really great. The V6 is a peach, such a flexible and relaxed engine to drive.

This car seems to have both those sorted, but what exactly does rare superchipped model mean? It seems to imply that it is a VW thing but I'm not sure about that.

Make sure that you can insure it, a lot of companies don't like modded cars, and don't be tempted to not declare them.

If it's as good as it looks I'll be very jealous :)

Not sure about the rare superchip thing, think it just means it's been chipped. Insurance should be ok, the VR6 is the same group as mine, just hope it's still there on Friday and I can get the money together before seller loses interest. I've been approved for the loan, just need it in my account ASAP.

On first glance, it looks a bit of a chav special with the subwoofer and the superchip thing, not to mention the angel eye lights and filthy engine bay.

No offence mate, I'm just giving an honest opinion.

It looks a bit on the cheap side to me, and that makes me slightly suspicious. If I were you I'd look for an enthusiast's car, one that doesn't have cosmetic mods, one that has perhaps uprated suspension, maybe a torsion bar, nothing more.

One thats been looked after, and not wanked over (if you know what I mean).

If I were you, I'd look in this lot:

It looks like it has a cone filter, I don't know if thats standard but if its one of those oiled K&N things, bear in mind they can play havoc with Bosch MAFs.

Just called about it going to have a look tomorrow. The mods don't bother me as they're exactly what I'm planning to woth whatever I get anyway, and there's already a sub in my car (a 1200W one, not the paltry 1000W in mine). The engine bay is also spotless compared to the oil and grease soaked lump in the front of my 16V.

Ahem. The Golf was already sold when I called so I've put a deposit down on a Punto instead. I did not see that one coming. It's an S-Reg 1.2 Sporting with 55k miles on the clock, drove sweet as a nut and will be cheap as chips to run. With the money I save on tax/insurance/petrol I can buy a PlayStation 3. Win all round really. Only problem is it's white. I vowed I'd never buy a white car. Can't win em all I suppose.

I took my sister today to have a look at an MX-5 (not to buy, just to see what they're like).

She was going to buy a Micra, I think I've convinced her that there are better cars to spend your money on :)

So, anyone got an Eunos to sell for about £3000-£4000?

I´m pretty sure no-one did! You´ll be buying Samsung products and supporting AC Milan next...

At least it's Italian, he can pretend it's still WW2 and they are close to VW and the Germans...
