New Barrysworld Quake 2 freezetag server?

Hi all,
I have recently been playing freezetag and I notice that the single server that barrysworld has is always full!
I was wondering if it would be possible for barrysworld to run another freezetag server so that more people have a better opportunity to play?

Actually, FreeZe Tag is a very popular mod for Quake2.
I agree with Tempus, I think there should be one more permanent server for people to use. I know that Barrysworld are currently supplying the UKFTL with servers for Wednesday nights. So what is the problem with supplying one more permanent one?

I will second and third that remark.

FT is just about the only mod that I play.. the only time that I revert into CTF or FFA is when the Barrys FreezeTag server has its 14 player limit which seems to be VERY frequently.

A second server would be great.. running custom maps maybe?

Or even beef up the primary FT server and increase the player limit to 20 for a more gibbing, mayhem and ice-cubes...

New maps on the server

So, we've had a couple of new maps added to the FT server in the last week: IKDM4, C23, BOOM, FINKODM2. They all play really well and its bought back some of the old teamplay spirit that used to be so evident on the Barrys FT server

The only whiners are modem'rs who dont want to wait for the lengthy map downloads.. Sooo... I was going to amend my website and add a section dedicated to FreezeTag with Binds, Maps and the most common models/skins available for download.

If I'm going to do this it would be ideal if I could change the opening message in FT (on the menu) explaining where maps can be downloaded from. We could also have a FAQ section for Freeze-Newbies.

Any thoughts? I have tried ICQ and email to Sir~Katie (FT Liason) but so far have had no replies 8-( Any idea who I can contact to discuss this further?

Some good suggestions. Machine and I have pondered some of them, already. I'll see what BW think about either another server adition, or at least push up the player limit to 20. What about making a third team within FT i.e. - Red, Blue and Green? But that might require skin d/l's.

1. BW is going to change the message of the day.
2. The Player limit has been increased to 16 "for now". I don't think this is enough, but let's see.
3. As to making a third colour team, i.e. Red, Blue, and Green - I've been asked whether the Mod can support this

My only concern witha 20 player limit is response times. The FT server is consistenty laggy. I dont believe this is a network issue (being a lucky cableguy myself I still find FT very laggy at Barrys - and thats with latency of aprox 40-50!) maybe a beefier server would sort out he problems? Or is this an issue with the FreezeTag mod itself?

The FT menu *looks* as if it can support upto 4 teams (yellow and green as well?) this would make for a most amusing variation on team play.

Is there any chance of another server? Really? If so, the Freeze hoempage has a download for FreezeTag CTF.. this sounds great! We would also get to play FT on all the CTF maps....

Oh dear, all this new FT action when I was deciding to try and spend some more of my time in the *real* world...

Lets see if we can get another server that would be great. The FT server is always full and/or busy so surely this is a good argument for another server? If you think that emails from other players will help your cause then let me know and I will glady add my voice to the campaign..

It's got the same map rotation tho. Not sure if this can change Still, we now have a second FT, so no more players unable to get on FT cos it's full What about making it 14 player servers again (is 16 too high?)

Perhaps we can have one as a three team @ 16 players
and the other for two @ 12 players?

Then we can allocate maps accordingly... I'm happy to download!! I guess it may be a problem for others

I would like to nominate the City2 map for a 3-player...

Some of the maps can BARELY support two teams... like the new Boom Boom and the Cthulu map...

But The Edge (q2dm1) and Warehouse (q2dm8) rock big time... for both sizes... IMOSHO ;-)

Player limits

Agreed - if the new server could have a 15 limit and three teams (5 per side) that would be most amusing.

I havent noticed any difference in the new 16 limit, on the old server, its only 2 additional players from the original after all. But if 12 players will allow the server to run smoother, hence less lag (and hopefully fewer server crashes!) then I'm all for it.

Whatever is decided I think that Beans deserves a round of applause.... <insert clapping here>... Well played sir.

Freeze Tag League

Well, there was a UKFTL (United Kingdom Freeze Tag League) It started off well and was enjoyable. But near to the end of the league clans just wern't turning up for matches and many clans had to put up with a default win. So unfortunalty it stopped. But if you want me to, I will speak to the other Barrysworld FT admin (beans/katie) and see maybe if him and I could start another league? Anyway I will try to get back to you on the subject as soon as possible.

I didn't mean that I was going to make a league by myself, because to be honest I don't have the time. But I mean that the Barrysworld Admins to start a Barrysworld Freeze Tag league because I know that beans/katie told me when I became an admin that he had ideas to start a leauge.
So maybe we could go ahead with beans/katies plan.

FreezeTag Clans

So how many FT clans have we got around at the moment then? I know LSD, uM, GIN, SUMO (?new one?), + anymore? I've been thinking about resurrecting my old [Sir] clan which, assuming I could find members , would make at least 5 clans that would be in the league..

Should be a laugh, as long as we dont get caught up in the age old 'no show so just default the points and then the league dies' routine.
