Everyone I know that has played it say it's a shitty console port, at this moment in time.

Just downloaded this for the PC and have been playing it for the past 45 mins. All I can say is wow - it's been quite some time since I've played an FPS game as instantly satisfying as this. It makes me think of old school QW deathmatch or UT.

I've played the Predator and Marine so far and the gameplay is really quite balanced, both of them have good and bad points. The Predator with cloaking and thermal vision makes it really quite easy (and hilarious....!) to track Marines, although using both at once will cause your cloaking only to be partial. I simply loved ripping their heads off :). However, the Marines have motion trackers (with authentic motion tracking sounds!) so they can sit tight and track other objects easily if things are trying to sneak up on you. If you spot a Predator from afar, it can be quite easy to take it down since his specialities are in melee plus he's quite large and easy to spray down.

Enjoying it :).

Enjoying it :).

Pretty much the first favourable review I've read of the demo - I didn't bother downloading it because there was so much bad stuff written about it. I'll give it a try.

I guess it just depends on your expectations nath, it's very simple to play, it's not woefully complicated and arsey like some other FPS games out there just now; it's jump in and start playing. You can pick it up and put it down easily, very much how I liked to jump in and out of deathmatch QW.

Not that I know of. I don't think there will be tbh as its linked directly to steam from the Sega website.

Anyone know if the full game is Steam only?

Not for sure but it looks likely. The old game they patched was tied into steamworks and the new game isn't available on Direct2Drive at the moment.

Sega do seem to be going a bit "download mad" tbh. I was stoked at Sonic 4 announcement but no physical media is going to be a bit of a weird adjustment to me personally.

Decided to give it a go after the Michael-Bay-would-be-proud trailer...

...utter, utter tripe of a demo which has put me from really looking forward to the game to all of a sudden not wanting to hear another word about its production; seriously, way too much would need to be improved to make this a viably playable game.

Graphics and versatility of the races aside, the jerkiness of the controls make it completely unplayable right from the offset. If there was any sort of fluid motion there whatsoever, I'd up my rating but it's a crying shame that the game franchise has gone the same way as the film franchise.

3/10. If they sort out the controls to the quality of any modern games standards, this would be a 5.

A lot of people have been reporting very sluggish controls, I found them to be very tight and responsive. My assumption - dodgy port that has crap consolitus control disease on certain setups. I've read that disabling v-sync will help a bit but obviously then you're stuck with tearing.

tried it, not overly impressed

the sync kills are stupid idea for a mp fps. graphics are ok, balance is ok, just feels like a mod / reskin job tho, nothing really jumps out as particularly AVP

and i miss being able to crouch :/

Its not balanced... ITS not balanced.. its puny humans vs two killer races imo it shouldn't be balanced... 1 human shouldn't be able to kill 1 predator. :D

its a game they want ppl to enjoy. it has to be somewhat balanced.

having 10 marines get wiped by 1 alien or predator doesent work in a game. that just makes to many play aliens or predators.

I also read somewhere, though I can't remember where - steam forums probably, that it's a 10 month old demo. There'll be DX11, crouching and dedi's in the full game. Though I'll believe it when I see it.

Was a terrible demo, they should have had a survival mode demo, played the PC version and while I know the single player will be great, I doubt I will touch the MP in its current state.

Whats happened to colonial marines, it was due for release next month but it appears to have lost its release date on play. I'm guessing the people at avp want to milk their game for all its worth before they allow a similar game to be released.

I thought Marines had been canned. Sega shut down the studio last year. Hopefully they have re-opened it up or given it to a different team. Was looking pretty good, from early screens

Edit
Link

Found some info, looks like they have been beavering away with it. Glad to see Gearbox in charge.

I don't understand why you need crouching? Preds and Aliens will see you long before you see them and crouching won't help that.

I personally really like the game trophy kills aren't too bad people are starting to know that they are for when you know you can do it because if you do it all the time the smart player will just hit you while your doing it = you just gave someone a free kill. I can't say anything for the pc version but the motion is fine on the 360. Hell the demo isn't even dx11 for the PC so the graphics should look awesome on the release version.

Played full game. I didn't last long. Scared the shit out of me as Marine. Can't say as to longevity.

Should possibly be mentioned I'm an abject coward :D
