Ok, so its a standard NUC with a custom case and a higher than normal price.

I really dont get it - I assume they're just fishing for folks that havent come across a PC in that form factor before?

I really don't see the point. Or why it's a kickstarter. Or why people are throwing money at them. The form factor has its uses but this just seems dumb when you can get a better spec'd Intel NUC (nevermind the third party alternatives) - which is still plenty small - for a lot less. And the NUCs themselves aren't considered cheap.
