Need new reading material

So, i know we have a few book enthusiasts here in the OT. And i need to find something new to read, as my latest read is nearly done.

Fantasy prefered, but everything accepted.

To give you a short list of books i really enjoyed;
Everything by Pratchett.
His dark materials. (ofc)
Hawk of May trilogi.
Dragonlance series.
Deathgate Cycle.
Abhorsen trilogi.
A Song of Ice and Fire series
You get the idea...

I'm not adverse to books directed at a younger crowd either, like; Artemis Fowl and Harry Potter.

Malazan Book of the Fallen series, seven books so far and is about the Malazan Empire and it's wars of conquest. It's written from the POV of alot of different characters, which come and go. I suggest reading Gardens of the Moon, see if you like it, then progress with the other books. There is alot of names, places, gods etc that are introduced in the start which may confuse you abit but it's explained during the course of the book.

Magician, the first book in a quite a big series, however the first is the best. Tells you the adventures of Pug and Thomas from youth to adult (skips abit in time) and their involvement of saving their world, Midkemia from the aggressive Tsurani Empire that come through a rift in time and space...

Various books by Robin Hobb. Look up the Farseer Trilogy, The Tawny Man and Soldier's Son books. Not great works of fantasy but entertaining and keeps you going for quite a while.

The Chronicles of the Black Company , fantasy series about a mercenary company with that name. Can be quite brutal and unforgiving, has some very interesting characters aswell.

The Complete Chronicles of Conan, shortstories by Robert E. Howard about Conan the Barbarian and his many accomplishments. Very entertaining.

Any of the Michael Moorcock eternal champion books.

My particular favourite was the books about Corum.

Seroiusly tho, good omens is a awsome book that should be read by all. Its written by Niel Gaimon and Terry pratchett and is about a deamon and his best friend who is an angel, the powers that be decide its time for the apololypse. Its full of satanic nuns, aliens, americans and a hell hound with the terrierfying name of "dog" Awsome read.

all of those are fantastic books if you like a song of ice and fire with its intrigue and stuff then the malazan books are definitely something you should have a look at!

and dont be put off by the complex nature of gardens of the moon, it all gets explained later! and theres some awesome characters in it too (if you thought Tyrion the dwarf was an amusing character, wait for some of them in malazan books )

the best series i've ever read was by Raymond E. Fiest, starts with Magician whoever said it, then Silverthorn -> Darkness at Sethanon then theres another 2 and more saga's his books are amazing read them all 3 times over now (about 20 i think )

Malazan Series are ace (i found the 5th one "Midnight Tides" a bit more dull than the rest tho). Not your D&D fantasy book, this one is more Conan / Melnibone style (violence, politics, sex, harsh vocabulary etc...)

I enjoyed a lot "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrel": about 2 magicians in the XIX century, the story is spiced with real events like Napoleon wars, Spain independency etc... Realy realy good, i finished it asking for more chapters

ooh and if you like wierd stuff read the ayre affair by jasper fforde, there are several sequals: lost in a good book, the well of lost plots, something rotten (I may have missed one but check out Fantastic Fiction for a really great title, author search thingy that will list sequals for you. he also did the nursery rhyme crime books "the big over easy" and "the fourth bear" also a good one is hollow chocolate bunnies of the apocolypse i think by robert rankin.

and if you want some books to give you real belly acheing laughter try the undead series by MaryJanice Davidson first one is undead and unwed then undead and unemployed etc etc great series if you like vampires, comedy, sex and shoes!

Anything with Skilgannon in is the best imo.

Anything of his is pretty much pure gold, though his later work (which his wife finished when he sadly died) aren't his best to be fair, still very readable though.

might be a bit controversial if you usually read foreign fantasy - but B. Reuters: Prins Faisal's Ring is really entertaining and easily read, but very very entertaining. its about this half irish brat who loves draming about looting shipwrecks in the chance of finding gold and fortune - one day while trying to dive down and search for a newly crashed ship he finds a spanish man and his starved slave who just managed to survive the storm. apparently the slave is a prince of africa and his father will hopefully pay half his kingdom to recieve him. his quests starts when the spanish man dissapears with his slave and he sets out to find them.
