Don't get B&W, get a Colour one, I know the licence is more expensive but you enjoy the film more.

My sister has one and I was not impressed, the screen is tiny. I'm in the process of getting my Palm ready for movie watching, the screen is much bigger, but I need a few 1Gb SD Cards ...

How do iPod videos compare in size / screen size and price to the others on the market?

I think if you wanted a 'proper' dedicated harddisk portable video player, something like an Archos is going to be a much better bet, but the AV700 is about £350, and quite bulky.

The video iPod is a compromise, but cheaper (£300ish for the 60Gb), and of course the PSP is another compromise but cheaper again and with a much bigger screen, but you'll pay £60-£70 a pop for 1Gb memory sticks or £15 for UMD movies.

There's a comparison of the PSP and the iPod as video players here. PSP wins on battery life and video encoding, but surprisingly, although the screen is much bigger, its not as sharp as the iPod's.

Or you could do what Xane's going to do and use a PDA with memory cards. I'd guess the PDA is going to cost more, but if it uses SD cards they're a bit cheaper than Memory Sticks. Wouldn't care to comment about battery life, but I've a sneaking suspicion the PSP would win here as well.

was really impressed with the ipod video's screen - didn't buy it for videos but decided to chuck some .mov I had on it for a larf...

Not sure how it compares to psp's or a dedicated video player though.

As for white vs black - went for black because you know it's like black - but it still comes with white cables, white cover and white headphones :( (though you'll want to replace the headphones with something better anyway of course)

It's just a colour. You'll inevitably want to put it in a case anyway, so customise it when you do.

PSP UMDs can be bought for £7-8.
Got Predator, Alien and house of flying daggers for that

Or use software Like ImToo DVD to PSP suite..works fine for BSG etc
