To answer me this, why, in Photoshop 6 do fonts always kern badly, seemingly random sometimes. I sometimes resort to taking screengrabs of text in a browser and making buttons that way because it can be so bad.

Is this a well known bug? Is there a fix? Getting Photoshop CS or whatever isnt really an option at the mo as I will need to blag the boss to pay out £700 odd for it. Very annoying, looks a right mess.

kern?

i've never had problems with fonts in PS, don't forget to rasterize the layer by right clicking on it and selecting "rasterize layer"

they use a low rez version just for aligning and stuff tehn draw it propperly when you select that

Kerning, - its to do with how letters nestle in words, (Load up word and type "to" in and when the font is set to Times, notice how the o nestles under the cross of the t).
As for the original problem, I've only got CS and as im not much of a designer, I'm afraid I wouldn't notice how bad then kerning is anyway, sorry :(

Why would you want to rasterize a text layer? It means you cant edit the text afterwards then..

No worries Jingle, I have a feeling it is a Photoshop 6 bug, I just cant find any mention of it anywhere.

i rasterize it as the low res version really annoys me and i very rarely have cause to change the text

you also can't deform with a non raterized layer

IIRC this was fixed in the PS 6.01 patch: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=1121

But looking at it there, there's no mention of it as a fix, but I remember I always had to install the patch to fix that problem with 6.0

*shrugs*

Get Version 7/CS, far better. Saying that, I'd rather use PS 6 that any version of Paint Shop Pro.

I tried that Sar, i am running v6.01, doesnt help though :(

Unfortunately I cant upgrade to 7 or CS as that would involve trying to get some money out of my boss!

Get a 40quid (or 65 from normal places) copy of elements (trimmed ps CS)

Far outstrips PS6
