Do you think National Service should be reintroduced in the UK?

I think some sort of citizenry/civil service would be more useful

I don't think we need it as such

What would be far more welcome would be to toughen up the sentences the courts are handing out. People are getting off literally scott free these days.

Basic training definatly, when i done it i went in a little fucker and come out well me. Same with many people.

It'd change the face of this stupid fucking country. Teach the little shits some respect.

As soon as they leave high school bam get them into the basic training course, which is now 14 weeks. Compulsory, home for a long weekend after the 7th week. Little shits

Last thing you want to teach a violent bunch of chav wankers is how to fight properly. Not sure we need an amateur army after years of saying Pro is the way to go.

Maybe they should be doing civil projects if out of work - earn their hand outs doing jobs that councils can't afford to usually do. Clean up canals and waterways. Painting Park area and that kind of shiz.

If the Isle of Wight idea fails then this works. Teach some of social responsibility & people are less likely to muck up what they have to clean up. Might be an idea to make it compulsory. 12 weeks of it when you reach 18; need to do at least 1 more term by 40; if you're out of work then you just get it by default until you get another job.

You can spread the 12 weeks out over a year @ 18 & the next 12 weeks can be spread over 20-40.

That wont work at all, they'd just take the piss out of the people asking them to clear up.

With the military they soon realise theres no point in trying to fight the instructors. Watch a couple of episodes of Bad Lads Army. My training was like that

People in america (thugs, gang people) join the army to learn how to fight, shoot etc. They then get dismissed and go back to their gangs and cause serious trouble.

absolutely ridiculous. no. i have nothing but respect for people that make the CHOICE to go into the army, but have we not moved far enough on as a society for people to make their own choices about what to do with their lives?

I agree thats why i said they would have to keep them separate from the volunteers

That relies on people showing that they take their responsibilities to society seriously. Whilst I'm not for putting them in the army as I think that's best left to the pro's & we really don't need to trained thugs on the streets I do think they need something. As no one is up for deporting them to the Isle of Wight & cutting them off then you need to find another way.

No idea why I've been hit by the off-topic bug today. Fear not I shall leave you all in peace tomorrow.

No need to make it compulsory for everyone. Just because we have some chavvy scumbags like laddey, don't mean everyone need training :p

discipline being the keyword. I reckon it would work, definatly. Not teaching them violence at all, it'd teach them respect. How to treat others, promise you that.

I've been in the chav shoes, and i was forced out of them.

My mate (David) was an A* student at school, meek as a mouse, shy etc, hated violence and all that. After we got our A Levels we were all like, "right whats everyone doing?", My mate Dave said he fancied the paratroopers. We were all like "dude, wtf, you could be a doctor and shit". ANyway, off he went. Didnt see him for like 6 months and came back a TOTALLY different person. Was a nutter! But in like a good way if you get what I mean.

Then he joined the SAS and after 2 years in afghanistan is now kinda fucked in the head and had to leave on medical grounds, but thats a different story
