I have a Netgear DG834G and also a Belkin F5D7633UK4A, neither will connect wirelessly to my laptop, and vice versa. Now I have taken both routers to work and they connect in a flash there. My ISP is Plusnet and before that it was UK Online.

Now the strange thing is this, if both routers are plugged in and the internet is on the Belkin then the laptop will find the Netgear, likewise the other way around, obviously it won't connect to the router but it sees it. As soon as I plug the ADSL lead into the router it found it loses it again, its like the adsl is messing with something, but in my opinion this is a damn weird problem.

Any help appreciated as I am now at my wits end.

Have I ever mentioned before I think you are great and have massive balls?

If you sort this you are god.

I'm off to bed shortly - better hurry up. I'm not installing mIRC again just to fix your bluddy router! :)

Dude, your priorities are all fucked up

But seriously, tomorrow evening should be OK - at some point. I'm out for some of the evening but I should be able to run a few things through with you.

First thing to try though, patch in your laptop with an ethernet cable, stick with the netgear for now, it's easier to set up. Get the adsl set up so that it's connected to the net and working via ethernet. Then configure the wireless - make sure the network name is something unique (change it from Netgear to tremlar or whatever). Whatever wireless channel it's on, change it - make sure it's anything from 1-11 (i.e. not 12 or 13) and generally the higher the better. Make sure you've enabled wireless security - WPA-PSK is the easiest just pop in an 8-63 password and see how that goes. Try all that and let me know what happens - I'll chat to you tomorrow.

edit: christ even in jest, rolleyes is fucking gay :\

Just an update.

I didn't bother much with this due to me moving to another ISP.

I have now fixed the problem and it was only by chance I realised what may be causing it............the wireless camera/baby monitor in my sons room, I changed the channel it was using and now all is fine again.
