This is gonna be embarassing so feel free to laugh!
I have finally got meself broadband at home and my computer is connected over a wireless network into a netgear adsl modem/wireless router/access point jobby...however it says running games over NAT doesnt often work, so I tried it and hopped on a Q3 server and got a decent ish ping but lots of packet loss and connection drops...so is this because of NAT...the wireless network or my ISP being crap? answers on a postcard to NOOB@barrysworl.com

oh and what games are good to play online right now?

Thanks for help guys

I have a linksys wired router and have not had any problems playing online... Not that that helps you at all ;)

Make a note of the ip address of one of these servers (without the : port) and from Start --> Run --> Command, try

tracert ipaddress

and

ping ipaddress

to get some info on your connection to that ip, e.g. response times to that ip and hops along the way, plus to pin-point potential causes of packet loss. Post some info here on it (although you might disguise your internal ip) and I'm sure people can help further.
Popular online games .... well, lots ..... Counterstrike still, q3, but moreso Battlefield 1942, Call of Duty, Enemy Territory, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Medal of Honor, Star Wars - lots of jedi type stuff .... plus rpg's like Dark Age of Camelot and Final Fantasy 11 (think its 11 anyway ;)). And loads more I will have forgotten that aren't war related fps's :)

Game wise I've found Vietcong fun to play online.

I've also been playing BF1942, Jedi Academy and UT2003 :) The UT is still great fun.

Get ASE jaba :)
As for the ping and tracert - they seem fine, although that server seems either far away or it takes a damn funny route along the way! When you find you are getting problems with your connection, try ping and tracert again, several times to determine what might be up m8.
