Last week I got myself a Buffalo Linkstation 1tb NAS, its great it really is.

One thing that is bugging me though is torrents, in my head it would be nice to have my torrents seeding even if my pc is off, seeding via the NAS.

Is this possible?

Is it possible without having to install Linux Rabbit 97 version twentytwelvetyfourteen?

I have Googled this but can't actually get my head around it.

It does have a built in torrent manager but I can't suss it out/make it work.

Lame, no manual on their site.

It does seem however as if there were problems with Bittorrent & that new firmwares have been issued. Might be worth checking if yours is up to date as a start?

Linky: http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/downloads/ change the drop down to "LS-CHL"

Was gonna say fairly sure it could do that. The FreeNAS software allowed for it, and plenty of other NAS boxes (all the synology kit for instance) can do it :)

Not done firmware yet but heres what happens -

I enable the torrent manager on the NAS, you are then meant to have a browser open up which is the torrent manager but it just says the page cannot be displayed. The address seems a bit weird, its the ip and has the 8080 port thingy at the end, tried it without the port in the addy but makes no difference. I did port forward on the router but that made no difference.

I have a Buffalo router as well and after enabling the NAS torrent manager the router kept dropping the connection, had to keep turning it off then back on again to get my connection back, did router firmware and turned off the NAS torrent manager and it hasn't dropped the connection since. It never dropped before so I can't imagine the firmware update cured that, I did read that torrent manager stuff can mess with your router, something to do with memory or some such thing.

Uber bump!

Right I am now sorted as far as download manager goes (my unit was faulty) so I can now start and seed torrents etc......apart from one problem, it won't start all torrents from all sites. Some it starts instantly without a problem and others it simply will not start the torrent.

I have contacted the support to no avail, as you can imagine they blame the site the torrent is from, I have searched but can't find why this issue happens.

Any idea luvs? Why would a torrent client not start some but starts others?

Some torrent sites have restricted client lists. It may be that your NAS box runs a bittorrent client that isn't whitelisted.

Can you give some site examples or are they norty?

They are n0rty but meh -

What.cd - doesn't work
The Box - does work
Acid Lounge - doesn't work

What you said made sense though Meglar, something I hadn't thought of. Thats so AIDS ridden if thats the case.

Yeah you are right on that MegBacon, the client that the NAS uses isn't approved by all sites.

Fucking goat balls :(

I've got a netgear NAS trem and it lets me install add ons. One of them is Transmission ( Transmission ) it's worth seeing if there's a version for your box, it's "accepted everywhere"

PS: Does number 1 still do invites?

It can be installed on my NAS but its a fucking nightmare, as is installing Squeezebox server on it. Its just something I cba with. I do like the NAS I have but I now wish I had bought Netgear :(

Number 1 still does invites if you know someone with any ;)

Yeah, well, I did a forum search on the number 1 site and found someone with the exact same problem as me, have a look if you were to ever join number 1 that is, if you knew someone with any invites I mean.
