Our naming policy can be found in the Code of Conduct (see the link). Stalin breaks the CoC and we will take care of this issue.

I just had an encounter with a guy who has elected to name his character Zaelot Stalin.
I find this style of naming utterly repulsing, but what is your policy on this?

So what exactly is wrong with the surname Stalin? After all its only a name. He didnt call himself Joseph Stalin. I am sure there are many people in the world with the name Stalin. Next I suppose you will be reporting people called Smith and Jones?

This has nothing to do with people not having anything else to do.
Some people care about what certain people have done in the past. The thing they are trying to prevent is that people get "ideas". GOA can get into legal trouble by allowing names people find repulsive. The law, by the people, for the people, all the people. Not just you and your house.

Sigh... does that even have to be my opinion? I'm simply letting you know what might be one of the reasons it's in the CoC. And that I understand that some people might feel offended by it, even though I'm not. I haven't got the background to feel offended by it, but some people has. I get the feeling you only care about what's orbiting your own head.

Halo go read some books, I suggest u start out with some topics like World War II, Genocide, Communism, Stalin, Political Murders - make up more here.
U may also wanna check out Polish and Baltic history post WW II - especially with regards to genocide, gulags and mass relocations.

Besides that, I find u amusing.

I have to agree with Novamir, this is clearly fascist, repressing our rights to have our own names, reporting people to the authorities, fighting Stalin. Bring it on!

No seriously... no politics.

I don't find the name itself very disturbing, just too openminded to let a simple name bother me. However I agree with the general though, and will rejoice the day DAoC holds only proper in-game RPG names. No I'm not a RPG fascist, just a normal one, what your idea of a name is up to you but there is a clear cut line between what a normal person sees as a name and not.

Seen lots of names that needed reporting, not actually done it
cos I always calm down and forget after a long session but 'Shag Me' and 'Rapist' come to mind.

I have a policy of not grouping or helping players with names like these and if they are guilded wondering about the GM that let them in.

I'm not gonna discuss politics here because I have my own very drastic opinions about how much freedom we actually have and how much is forced on to us by governments etc but anyway when you buy the game and pay for it you actually have a legal contract with GOA. The CoC is part of that agreement and thereby when playing the game you agree to follow the CoC. You are a super retard if you create a char with the name Stalin or Hitler and not expect that eventually they will report you.

As for Halo. Funny how you try to shock people with your (what you think are) impressive words but actually you make a real fool out of yourself and shows you got very much to learn in this world.

(afganistan and iraq) dooont think u should go mental just because someone calls him/her self something you have heard about=)

The question is academic as 1) America would never surrender their citizens to a war tribunal, and 2) the victors write the story, after all. That said, names like Edgar Hoover are just plain provocative :)

D-day, operation overlord, was a military operation, a clear majority of casualties were combatants. It can be argued if the operation got green light even in light of unreasonable casualties and possibly should the performerance of the allied commander and recon be questioned. However it can in no way be compared to genocide or similarly unreasonable civilian casualties. Such as Hiroshima and Nagasaki (just to point out US has indeed history to be dealt with) or the Gulag.
