My shit week, assistance please ladies and gentlemen

Right, summary of week:

1. Lorry drives down the right hand side of car, 6ft scratch.
2. Girlfriends Dad dies.
3. Company that were doing Building Control Application for the house I bought are being liquidated.

I'm hoping that you chaps can assist me with number 3, so:

1. Anyone know anything about the liquidation process?
2. Anyone know anything about Copyright and/or the best source of information about it?
3. Anyone know the best ways to find out information about individuals, e.g. a companies house directory but for people?

I tend to use facebook if i am going to stalk someone.

Oh no thats not what you mean.

tbh finding information about an individual is going to be difficult because of data protection.

What sort of stuff do you want to know?

Regarding the liquidation more detail is needed. I'm not sure what your problem is.

Have you paid them something up front? If so you're unlikely to be refunded it as in a liquidation certain creditors are termed as preferential creditors and assets will be distributed as follows
1) Bank (who will have fixed and floating charges on any assets making them 1st on the list)
2) Staff wages
3) Government
4) Everyone else is an unsecured creditor

If they're in liquidation it's unlikely they will finish what they've been doing for you.

Vae, my problem is that I want the guys files for my house and I don't know where I stand. Money wise I'm pissed off, but from what I've already read and what you've written, clearly it's a write off.

As for information, I'm not after anything dodgy. I want to know if there are any means of researching an individual. With companies house for example you can download sets of accounts and other submitted forms, etc.

Frankly I'm after "can I find out if X has any monetary value" because if X is worth anything, it might be worth a conversation with my solicitor.

As it's a company that's being liquidated then you can get any available information from companies house. As it's a company then there's no recourse or liability to any individual so forget that route. Regarding any files the company might have that relate to your house you could try visiting their office or getting in touch with the liquidator however I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope.

Not gonna happen, there is nowhere like that. And if there was jo public would not get the info because of data protection. Pursuing things with a solicitor only worth while if they own property. Land registry search for that.

For the file, i'd say contact the co or its liquidator. With the co gone it has no value and they'll e looking to get as much money as possible so i'd think the chances of them flogging it to you would be high.

Not sure quite what you're getting at with the individual search, but you wouldnt be able to sue them if they worked for the co unless its a freakishly unusual unlimited co (pretty rare).

Thanks Tilds, basically my concern is as follows.

Previous documents produced contain copyright info and have been submitted to the council. Granted company no longer exists. However during my work we recover documents from people, including councils. Every single solitary time we get hit with "you need the copyright holders permission to do X with that" where X may be look at, copy, etc, etc.

I don't know where I stand with all this, because I've asked the company/liquidators to provide written confirmation that they have rescinded the copyright or confirmation that they transfer it to myself.

However the people who chap from the company being annoying (they have been since day one, I should have known better) is just peddling me the line "there won't be a company, so don't worry".

So basically, experience teaches me better than to "not worry" and I want to know how I can ensure that the copyright on the documents they have produced for me is either:
a) removed completely
or
b) transferred to me so I don't have problems in the future

You have my assurance that I won't hold you to any advice you may have to offer
