Have a small question olga.

You seem to know alot of drank stuff etc, you have any good sites where you can learn a bit from? And I don't mean sites which go waay to deep or sites with info on the whiskey from 1900 or so :p

Just some general info. Always intrested in that.

I use quite a few danish sites so :s mac y, whisky portale

Whisky - Wikipedia
Whisky Mag
A to Z of Scotch Whisky Information - Scotch whisky .net
whisky-pages
Flavor map
The Whisky Exchange
Scotchwhisky.com
Whisky.com Complete Guide to Scotch Whisky
The Whisky Shop
Beer, Whisky and Cigars

other than that i read up on a few forums mostly danish tho :S
and the vast knowlage i gather is honestly not from the net but from the
whisky tasting events and otherwise trying aka "buying" new brands at my local watering hole the Cockney Pub in Århus, other than that ofc talking to variouse Spirit&wine shop owners
and importers, they usually have thier finger well planted on the pulse, and know the who why where and whats ect... and they are your key to the "rare" stuff you wont find in the window shop ;)

So the first week has past, and it's been great,
I've learned tons already, and boy have I had my hands on some pure gold

Oh and I've come to appreciate one of the very fun sides of my new Job wich is getting to taste "and how to taste" alot of variouse things, Beer, wine, whisky, gin, bitters, Candy, bbq suaces, olive oils you name it :D

I've also learned that I honestly know zip Zero compeared to what your expected to know working at such a place, but I'm also eager to learn so I'm not worried tbh, I'm still at that faze where I jump out of bed and cant wait to get to work "yes it's an odd odd feeling"

For the interrested tho I can Highly recommend this Gin:
some of you may already be familiar with it, anywhoo it's ace both neat and with a tonic.

So The boss gave me "homework" for tonight, we'r about "push" these two bottles
so he gave me two small bottles to sample tonight :D

this: Delamain X.O, pale & dry
and
this: Bailie Nicol Jarvie

the cognac was ok, but nothing that made me jump around with exitment, the whisky tho! Holy!!! and it's even a blend! I've already decided to buy a big bottle tomorrow, before we set it on sale, it's by far! one of the very best blends I've tasted to date.
top 3 easy!
ps: it's a blend of mainly Glenmorangies, Glen Moray 15, and Nb grain whisky

so If you like smooth whiskies, you have to give this one a go, and it's "cheap" you'll really struggel to find better quality for money! roughly 17-20£ I am more than willing to set a personal garanty on this one!

looks nice, will have to ask the boss about it :D
today I was put to these 3 Ambre - Reserve and Reserve des Dieux aka "cigare""in a row" just before i got off work, was an intresting experience for sure. the ambre is a 10year old the reserve is the same cognac just 10years older :D and the last is also basicly the same cognac and about the same age as the reserve but tailored for the cigar smoker. for a summer cognac I'd definatly say the Ambre "very very smooth for a tenner" and for that christmas eve infront of the fire, I'd say the Reserve. the Reserve des Dieux was ok and deffo a good cognac, but imo lacking abit comparead to the others, or well, thats not even quite fair, it more..well it seems abit out of character for a Pierre Ferrand.

Crispy, define good offers ;)

as I said If you like smooth whiskies, and dont mind blends, then the BNJ is simply fantastic quality for money. and for 179kr,- ? you'll struggel for sure to find anything even near remotly as good you get Glenmorangies, Glen Moray 15, and North british grain whisky for you money.

I've just Secured my bottle :p ofcause I got it at employee discount, wich sadly i cant offer anyone els :/ but honestly 179 is bloody cheap for a whisky in anyones book.

If your more reffering to the "bigger" whiskies, then as long as your over 2k then I'm sure you might be able to talk him down to a good deal.

hmm.. not of the top of my head, if it has to be "special"
I'll see what i can do, will inquire with the boss or the chap down at the cockney pub, they bloody well know thier shit.

I'd need some idea of price range tho ?
or rather a max price at least.

the Hendricks gin is roughly 220kr,-
and somewhat in the same taste line that the bombay is "if you know that one" just better! especially if you want to drink it neat. then everything els just simply pales in comparison. there "thing" is that they've added cucumber to the mix. but it's also great for drinks "G&T's ect"

Our family has a thing for gin :D

I drink G&L, mom goes for a G&T, dad and big bro drinks G&Vermouth.. Would it be blasphemy, to mix it like that or is gin another thing than whiskey in that matter of case? :)

well, personally i see nothing wrong with it, and aye it is abit of a different thing with whisky "but in pure honesty people can do what ever they see fit with what they've bought. I've heard and seen somethings that I would consider "a shame" or cough*blasphemy§ but that my own opinion,
I would tho say to anyone "try it neat, even if just one sip to taste it" before you throw it into a cocktail, that goes for gin as well as whisky or cognac or even a vodka

But I do personally belive you get a better Gt ect with the Hendrick's
so If you even infact gin lovers then you cannot not try this one, and I'm betting once you go Hendrick's you wnt go back ;)

btw if your interrested it's William Grant & Sons that make it

Oki, I'll see what i can dust up.
I'm guessing a lagavulin 16 wont cut it ? thats what i ment with "special" as in something out of the ordinary

Hmm that sounds nice actually.

The stuff im looking for has to be in a price range where you can afford to get hammered, but still good enough to enojoy while it lasts :)

Might take a look past your shop at some point (i am very busy atm :()

It just might actually, have to think about it.

Also thinking about Smokehead. Both are rather "cheap" in the taste special/quality department i think. Or rather from what i've read.

Just thinking if there's some form of "King of Smoke" and especially if there's any real tar scotch to be found :)

When Gin was invented it was drunk straight, and was massively popular in poorer quarters because it was dirt cheap. These days you rarely see it drunk straight, and most often mixed with either Tonic or Bitter Lemon.

So as I came into work today, the sales man from Juuls had just arrived,
and he had with him 3 suitcases of "samples" with him of wich I had the pleasure of trying the following:

- Karuizawa 15 years Single malt pic
- Mackmyra Första Utgåvan 1batch pic
- Springbank 10 years Campbeltown pic
- Springbank 15 years Campbeltown pic
- Longrow CV pic
- Longrow Gaja Barolo 7 years pic
- Longrow 18 years pic

the springbanks were what you'd expect from them at the ages so "shrug"
and i wasnt to fond of the longrow CV. The jap and the swede were really nice smooth/clean swede, and smooth/creamy rich jap. My favorits tho have to be the Longrow 18 and the Longrow 7 gaja damn tho's were ace the 18 was just amazing and a real classic. The suprise was the 7 gaja tho, incredibly rich and smooth and dark for a mear 7yo, I would never have guessed it's age in a blind tasting (would ahve put it at 15+ easy)

And I had the pleasure of trying El Dorado 12 & 15 year Guyana rum.

both really nice, the 12 was sweater and the 15 abit dryer and more complex. both really really ace rums wich deffo arent for splashing into cokes or coffees :p

and a note to toht ;)
After talking with a cople dem ones who are supposed to know stuff they all said Laguvulin 16 , and they all also said that there are ofcause always hidden truesures around, but tho's are often "stumble apon incidants" and typical indipendant distributors bottlings.

but other suggestions included "based on peatness"

- Ardberg (especially the older ones)
- Laphoriag
- Lagavulin
- and ofcause the remaining islay's (Bowmore, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain, )

- Signatory Bunnahabhain 1997 Heavily peated maybe ?

also some of the old Port Ellen's but they arent easy to find, and you have to be abit carefull, it's a closed distillery so the market is mostly made up of independant distributors, so thar be pure golden treasures, and some really really nasty stuff as well unfortunatly

anywhoo hope it's been of use ?

Olgaline, you just saved me a lot of thinking on my next whisky run :)

Thanks amucho, will let you know of the results later when i get the chance.

Might start with the Laguvulin as it seems rather "cheap" at the locale.
