Ok so I finished my training for my new job (security guard) on thursday and started work on friday working in a marks & spencers store. Training was all well and good ex-sergeant major of the royal marines bellowing in your face 18hours a day etc etc :p
But after my first day of work I had a problem, the shoes they had issued me with the uniform were shit! Doc martens, which are a comfortable shoe I know, but when you are covering 20miles a day in them or so new they rub.. and boy do they rub.
http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/2619/meinfoot9hr.jpg

That was after the first day I have done another two 10 hour shifts in the damn things after that and every step was agony, if someone had stole something in front of me I wouldnt have run after them :)

Basicly this morning I decided fuck this, taking a couple days off to let the blisters go and the cuts to heal up etc and buy some new shoes.. that wont rub.

So Im looking for suggestions on comfortable shoes, sensible colours no reebok classic suggestions and such, I tried wearing my Timberland boots for an hour or so yesterday:

Pair of those and they were even worse :p Basicly the shoes can be anything.. trainers, boots, smart shoes etc etc as long as they are brownish in colour to comply with company standards.

This might sound really stupid, but it might not actually be the shoes but infact your socks?

Do you wear thick socks or thin ones?

Thick socks, company issue ones they are like 'reinforced' around the ankle and such.

you could check your local army shop if they got some suitable boots, though these are usually black.
or alternativly, wear some thin socks under the reinforced ones.

Get a pair of army boots. They hurt quite a bit the first day orso but can't get anything better after that first period.

Yeah my cousin suggested that, he is in the marines and told me to wear silk socks under my proper ones, wasnt sure if he was taking the piss though :p

as long as it's not polyester (or some other plastic-thingie-like) ones it's fine.
pretty much a matter of "what happens if it melts" ;)

aye that might be another reason the shoes are new (and i imagine they are stiff type boots) so you have to wear them in for ahwhile.

(walk around your back garden and stuff wearing them.

I work alot on the underground and have to walk many miles in safety boots.

Not sure if you can get away with them or not but look ok when brand new.

http://www.industrialboots.co.uk , take your pick!

Maybe a bit over the top for you but I wear a pair SS806SM all day and walk about 8k in them and dont get blisters.

Also wear two pairs of socks :)

Yeah I tried that after my first shift, used regular plasters and gauze over them on the second day but the shoes owned them :( My 3rd day I tried using cotton wool pads in between the socks and shoes took them out when a member of the public, a 65 year old lady or so, came up to me and said:

''Are you the security guard?'' to which I replied ''Yup, can I help you?''
Then she said ''Why are you wearing frilly socks then?'' and walked away muttering about what the world was coming to these days :p The shoes had pushed the cotton wool above the back on the shoes and it was sticking out from the bottom of the trouser leg :p

Thanks for the suggestions guys, those safety boots look pretty sweet :)

just wear some black smartish looking shoes.. or comfy trainers that look smart, until you get rid of your blisters.

Army boots are very comfortable and durable. I own a pair thats been my most comfortable footwear for almost 7 years now. Also my boots have inlays that reduce friction. You might be able to get these inlays in an army surplus store.

Personaly I never had problems with blisters even after marches of 30-40kms but some of my squadies got it really bad during the 1st weeks.

A few things I can remember:

- Dont cut blisters open. Pierce them with a needle, let the liquid come out and then protect them with a plaster. (You can get special ones for blisters in drugstores or chemestries.)

- Give your skin a chance to harden. Wash your feet with clear water only for a week or 2.

- Those blisters you got will heal better if you bath your feet in warm saltwater.

Edit: Had a look at the pic of the 2nd shoes you tried. Ofc they were even worse. Their outer seams are in high friction areas. While this might cause no problems normaly it does when you walk for extended periods of time. The seams make the shoe stiffer in that area and increase friction.
I'd seriously suggest you get yourself a pair of army boots simply because they are especially designed to avoid these problems and usaly also have a soft 'joint' area around the heel just where you got that sonoffabitch-blister now.

Kicking someone with steel toecaps isnt a smart idea. I mean sure you, if I bash you over the head real hard with a turtle your skull will likely go pop but how do you think will the turtle feel?

There is a reason why army boots have leather reenforced caps. ;)

one pear of socks, then put the cotton wool with another pair of socks over, keeping it in place

What he said  Personally I also swear by a product called Compeed - sp? You can find it in 'Boots'.

Tincture Benz Co I used to use as well - sore as hell but smells great and keeps it infection free
