My first stalking in Yggdra

After once more falling behind the main army of Albion last night ( <sighs> ), and watching those near be being cut down by a roaming Midgardian warparty, I tried to find my way south to Grallarhorn. I got a few frights when guard patrols came close to me, but my stealth held true and I made it to Yggdra. On my way, I heard of many deaths and realised that the army had been slain, I was all alone.

At first, I didn't know where I was. Then I saw this mass of undead around some stones and realised this must be the fabled Undead Camp. But alas, there were no Midgardians to see. So I stalked around, and saw a few Midgardians further down a valley, but then I saw what had to be the frontier keep. I was now in grave danger. I watched as two Midgardians battle this ogre type beast and watched others slay white ponies. Many were more powerful than I.

I took a closer examination of a Troll Shaman and a Norse Bezerker, and found that the troll was named Styggve. A cousin of the infamous Stygge whom I had seen slay some of my countrymen? I took no notice of the norseman, for he was grey, but this troll was green, and that made him a mark to be slain. I waited, patiently, missing my chance once or twice, sure that they might have glimpsed me as I snuck past them - for I would never strike down a foe that had been in combat, or was grey.

Eventually I got my chance. I struck with a PA, and thought that would be sufficient, the troll bravely tried to cast a spell at me, but he missed as I stealthed away; he was bleeding and poisoned, but managed to save himself on the doorstep of Valhalla. I cursed myself for not finishing him off. I did not stay too close, as I knew, and saw, other more powerful Midgardians would come. And they did.

I returned a minute or two later, only to see 3 of my realm mates, one purple, one orange, and one yellow come storming in and slay the hapless Midgardians. I laughed as I watched a small horde of red and purple Midgardians trample the 3. All three were slain by a norseman (Sarekov?). I kept my distance, and snuck around a bit more. Soon enough, they moved off, leaving the two youngsters to fight again. This time, I didn't leave the Shaman alone and followed up my PA. I left the grey to grieve his comrade as I fled into the woods.

I surprised a scout of ours by sneaking up right next to him, and soon got bored, so I ran along the lake after I saw a few Midgardians pass by. Then I saw a yellow Norseman, and thought, what better way to end my adventure. I struck swiftly, and before I knew what was happening, I found (what Master Einhaender later explained) an oversized hamster. I learnt quickly, that my tactics against a Bezerker, will have to change, and already I have thought of new ways to deal with them, for he struck me very hard. It came down to who could strike that final blow, and he won. But in death, I had the pleasure of watching my poison claim his life. And there we lay, Briton and Norseman, dead. I yelled a farewell, and released my soul. Hallgarn (?) I hope we shall meet again, for I did so enjoy that short fight. <salutes>

And if you keep stalking my Hunting ground, you will feel the wrath of Cher.

All green-orange con mids there are my express property and as such should only fall to me and my hibernian brothers.Watch out for me next time

Nice tale... incase you hadnt figured for yourself the best way to deal with that is carry a crippling poison on your 3rd blade, hit him with this run away for 20 seconds, when you return he will be his normal wimpy self and will not be able to hamster you again.... I bet the guy who designed Darkness Falls lived in Yggdra.

Excelent story Pwyiw, it gets me all fired up to go to Albion or Hibernia to try my luck; and /bow to your shivalry in leaving the grey con alone...

Anyone know where the the Albion and Midgard exping camps are?, some directions would be good... thats assuming that Hibs and Albs are as brave as us Mids and actualy go to the frontiers to exp...

Sadly us Albs do not use the lowlevel Frontier to hunt as much as Mids do (been to Cruachan once, didnt see any Hibs then but dont know how much you guys use your frontiers).
There is one place which is camped pretty often up in the Pennine's, but you're likely to run into a full group of 40+'s there, so maybe not the best target for your 3x SB ;)

Hibs you can sometimes find in the gorge/collory xping on the trees there (various types of tree). Albs don't use the frontier much, we have Lyonesse. :p

Yes, so true. Albs do plains till late teens, then move to Cornwall, then on to Lyonesse. Wouldn't be surprised if the first time some Alb L35+'s went into the frontier was the go on a relic defense... ;)

The way I see it, Mids don't really have "farms" like the Albs and Hibs do. I'd like to see somewhere in Midgard that you can farm like Pygmy Goblins in your 30's. Hibs have the Sett dwellings in their close frontier they can use, but lots of other places to go instead for items and XP.

Midgard Exping zones, something like this..

1-5 outside start town
5-10 tomtes generally, host of earth, wind sprites? -any old crap stuff a little bit further away from town..
11-16 weeping willows
17-30 vendo caves (dungeon)
30-40 spindelhalla (dungeon)
40-50 malmohus (v1.46? zone)

How about...

1-5 blah blah
6-10 same but further away (avoid nisse lair at all cost)
11-16 weeping/shrieking willows or werewolves(grouping/soloing)
17-23 vendo caverns
24-27 muspelheim
28-32 varulvhamn
33-40 spindelhalla/vanern swamp
41-50 vanern/raumirak/MALMOHUS

Also of particular note for being lush xp camps:

Snow crabs in uppland 24-27
Terra crabs in spindelhalla 32-38 (chain-killing, reduce group size as they get easier)
Spindels (spiders) in Spindelhalla (SOLO 40-43)

Those places should certainly level you up nice and quick, certainly worked for me, went from level 21-41 in about a fortnight (just over 4 days game time I think)

I thought I would continue the tales of my exploits in this book.

On Saturday, I was trying to find the army of Albions that were running around in the Hibernian frontier when I found a boogey man, and thought I could dispatch the vile beast. Straight after I attacked it, a mass of Hibernians came running past on their way to somewhere, two of them stopped and didn't strike me at first (Toirdhealbhach and Tuorin) But then Svarun attacked me and they helped finish me. I was utterly outnumberred, by enemies that were purple, but he just couldn't let me finish so that I would not suffer from a training death. For that, I shall show no Hibernian mercy, ever again.

Later that day, as I was heading down the passages in Darkness Falls I heard news that Eroa was slaying my younger realm mates, quite a few below the 25th season. That disgusted me, that a 50th season huntress would do such a thing. By using the various deaths, I managed to track down the chamber she was in, and found her. But she escaped me and shot another one, but I saw her trying to stealth. So I chased her but could just not hit her to expose her. I then perceived a large group of Servants of the Lake passing through the chamber, so I yelled for all I was worth, and then The Lady smiled upon me and I hit. She was exposed for all to see, and Coren responded fast enough to stun her as she tried to flee. She soon died. If there was such an action, I would have spat on her corpse.

Tonight, I was slain three times by Death and Azal as I tried vainly to assist in the defense of Fensalir faste. I am glad to see I am such a threat to you. <scowls>

Later, I found an orange troll and a grey kobold by the undead camp, and thinking that the troll had just been restored to life, I struck him (Anarky?), but alas, he was resting after a grueling fight with some undead. :( I left the grey to flee and was going to come here to apologise, but then, as I watched two greys and a green killing creatures by the lake, Narve slew me, and that was the last straw. I knew a high seasoned scout of ours was in the area, and directed him to them, where he struck down Magno, a skald, with such speed it was as if the skald had been struck to the heart. One of the greys vainly tried to storm him, but died, as did his friends.

Know this Midgard (and Hibernia), after the actions of some of your kind, henceforth, I shall not spare a single of your young. In fact, I shall now make them a priority. I come for your young Midgard, their blood is on your hands.

<draws a clean blade, makes a cut in his palm, clenches his fist and drips the red blood into the snow of Yggdra.>

Ahhh welcome to the real world Pwyiw, when I hunt Hibernians or Albions nothing walks away while I still live. I have now taken 2 exp deaths in the pursuit of your kind, I could have let them run, I could have avoided my exp death (and 1 of their exp deaths) but in the carnage that is Darkness Falls no quarter is given or taken.

I look foward to meeting you one day be it full health, low health, newly rezzed, being attacked by mobs or players, does not matter to me you are a target.

Hey kid, sorry to hear about them ganking you, but you're not grey to them anymore. As for Eroa, well hey, no love lost between us, when we were both still part of TU, I left a group at the Hagbui's and trundled all the way back to Gna because she joined...as I was running back I heard she got kicked from the guild because she tried to hijack the group, which had been set up to get our thanes some equipment, then dropped them as they pulled and just ran off. No respect for her...all I can say is... Typical.

One last thing, don't throw honour away because of the actions of a few, otherwise you're no better than them. I see you took a blood oath, well, hope you get your vengeance and return from the dark side when you see the light.

Oh, and ignore Etzel, he's a gimp, he'll only attack you if you're green, maybe blue. ;)

My problem is i'll stick on anyone, although I wish i'd taken the name of the Alb I went after on Saturday.

During a mass encounter at the crossroads an orange con Alb (some sort of tank, was very hectic so not sure even what class) broke from the fight to run for it. As I closed on him from behind and unloaded the DD's he sat down to die presumably expecting to be ganked, unfortunately my poor old axe wasn't much of a match for his epic armour and I must have missed 5 out of 6 swings. By the time he realised the subsequent mob pop finished us both off :)

Pwyiw, its perfectly acceptable to strike enemy wherever you can. And when dice is thrown in your favor - be it a monster enemy fighting, ressurection illness or their overconfidence - i feel that this opportunity should be exploited.

Tonight my blood oath was partially fulfilled.

Deran, blue kobold runecaster, died while resting. (127, 13)
Zaphod, grey troll, died while running on road. (1, 0)
Hian, grey kobold shaman, died while casting in combat. (18, 5)
Modin, blue dwarf warrior, died while in combat with yeti, right under the nose of Thorungla, a purple norse hunter. (0, 0)
Hrafn, yellow norse hunter, died while resting in front of Saaug, a purple troll beserker. (293, 26)

There was an orange kobold runecaster that I did 99% damage to, but cannot recall his name, as I do not have an etching (roughly 110, 15).

As well as an annoying orange lurikeen nightshade - Opin - that attacked a friend, (roughly 55, 7).

I shall come again Midgard, and I shall slay your young once more.

<bites his lip, and spits blood into the snow before fading to black.>

So a training death, or an xp death as its known in the vernacular, is a bad thing to you? Perhaps you can explain why its then acceptable for you to gloat over causing such training deaths to the baby trolls in the forest in the post above this one.

Maybe Paladins expect too much from infiltrators, but some consistency of action and thought doesn't seem too much to ask for?

You can blame your realm buddy Niar for your death on that one. He had just killed one of our casters at AMG Tower and had ran off. Our groups ran off for a keep and in the Crim valley entrance we see a boogie man chasing an Alb edge of clip range, so we 3 pile down and bingo Svar hits you. Reflex F8, I swing, dead. We were quite sorry to see it wasn't Niar and you befell an xp death, Toird hit the boogie man first with his bellow.

However having been subjected to chain ganking at level 23/5 by Giona at DL and on mobs when nr the beetle log, I'm afraid we didn't waste too many tears after we all reflected our past. Your army was abroad in our frontier at that time and you really should be avoiding boogie men. We however were genuinely sorry you befell in such a manner.

I really am going soft, after a LD after capturing Benowyc over the weekend (Friday)I come across 2 Albs fighting some mob that looked like an Azure near some ruins at the Y junction. 2 hybrid types, may have been Minstrel and Paladin, I attacked one, Jamdor?? or something, after checking the mob was due to die. Killed him and resisted all stuns etc and thought oh hell. I let the female rez, waved and off i went.

I'll hopefully scour the logs for the names.

Goodluck in your pursuit for 50 and get your chains in.

This is a blood oath. Any blood of Midgard I can spill, in any way, pays a little of that debt. This is vengeance. When the debt is payed, then I shall return to my more honourable ways.

Do unto others as they do unto you.

All Midgardians have become accustomed to training death while in the frontiers yet still we return, you will not stop us just make us stronger. When the time comes for our young to enter combat they are already battle hardened, in the face of overwhelming numbers we still charge. Maybe your young could learn something.

lol, Pwy don`t spend your time on pointless grey ganking ;)
Ofcause while running with zerg in DF its perfectly acceptable to kill everything in site, but now the goal should be reaching 50 asap ;) First this will give you much wider variety of suitable targets, second it will increase your defence a lot, third it will allow you to get full benefits from slaying your enemies.
Ofcause its nice to test from time to time whether you progress in right direction, but don`t spend too much time on it, unless you're sitting on list.
