I get heartburn worse than anything, indegestion, cramp all the bits of shit that get on your nerves.

I'd go to the doctors but i'm never out of the place, so my nearest local GP is FH.

What are the causes of heartburn, why do i get it worse than any 18year old i know? Why do i get it worse than a pregnant women, i get it atleast everyday for a duration of 3-5 hours, why?

Yeah i eat greasy foods but for the ammount i eat i shouldn't get it this bad imo. My gf works in the boots pharmacy and she brings me heartburn tablets/liquids once a week, i go through a bottle of Gaviscon a week, atleast!

How can i prevent this shit from happening, and completly stop it? Do any of you fuckers suffer from heartburn as bad as i do? :(

Then you're going to die young and in absolute agony.
No point going to the doctor. Its curtains for you, matey.
And to think its all been a waste of time.
Never mind, look on the bright side ! McDonalds is open !

I`m off to the docs on Monday for the exact same problem. If you get heartburn/indigestion for over 4/5 day period you need to go to the docs. Could be ulcer etc.

I've been suffering from heartburn for quite a while and have found quite a few different things give it to me, others don't.

The problem with anti-heartburn products is that the more you use them, the more your body gets used to the intake of them and so the more heartburn you'll get and the more you'll need them.

Heartburn is generally caused when a valve opening from your stomach is opening and stomach acid is refluxing up where it shouldn't so it looks like the both of you have the same thing I have (it's quite common).

It can also be stress related so if you get it, don't get worked up or do any activity which will work you up.

The other cause of the pain can be a stomach ulcar which using prescribed drugs from the doctor and a decent diet for a couple of weeks can be cured but I wasn't lucky enough to have that.

I'm currently taking lanzoprazole, a prescribed anti-acid reflux drug which works everytime but it has the same drawbacks as gavison and the such so I use it sparingly. My dad had the same problem start when he was 50ish and his has gone mental from overuse of the drugs. If you get heartburn minorly, DONT reach for your meds or anything, sit it out calmly if you can.

Other ways of making it better:

1)Smoking is a very large contributing factor; I'm not sure of the ins and outs of it but if you stop smoking, especially as you're young, the chances are it'll go away completely.
2)Alcohol. There are some drinks I simply cannot have. One of the first big contenders was carlsberg export so I moved onto Stella and it got better. Not long after that, Stella started giving me problems so I went back to export and that was fine for a while. The short version of this is, don't drink the same drink every weekend or whenever you drink, try to have different drink styles everytime you go out. Guinness has been one of the best drinks for me and I've never had heartburn as a direct result of drinking it.
3)MSG and artificial foods. This is a weird one. Generally speaking, I can have a quite nasty, fatty meal and be fine because I use fresh ingredients. Microwave meals and processed food are absolute killers for my heartburn. Also, the fattier they are when processed, the worse they'll be. Those small pizzas you can buy are a guarantee when giving me heartburn, learn what gives you heartburn and just stop eating them.
4)Spicy food for me, generally sorts out my heartburn but in all honesty, I'm not sure if it's because of the spice or because they're generally added to fresh food again.

I've also found that taking my time when eating and not lying down after eating have helped me no ends. Eating too quickly will give your stomach a huge influx of food and that's when mine seems to flare up so taking your time will divvy the food out in your stomach better and let it process it better...not to mention that it's a much healthier way to eat.

Hope this helps, if you want any more info, just post here or PM me, am willing to help as I know how much of a bastard it is. :(

Thanks alot for your help.

I smoke, i eat greasy food and i drink lager.

Stella is a fucking killer, i drink stella and thats my, i'm bolloxed for the whole night due to heartburn, usually ending in an early night to sleep it off, which doesn't help because its 10x as worse in the morning (due to the alcohol i thinks)

I'm 18 and i've been suffering for ages now, i think i'm gonna have to change my diet tbh, and possibly quit smoking. I've got the willpower to quit smoking without any patches, i know i have because i've done it before but i genuinly enjoy smoking. A pint and a fag, suit me sir. Brew and a fag in the morning, yeah good stuff i enjoy it.

Possibly maybe go to the gym and get healthy. Dunno, i'll see what the doc says (yay a day off work with pay woo)

Much of a boozer? I used to get it constantly, was quaffing Zantac and Rennie non-stop. I gave up drinking for a while and it stopped within days and it almost never bothered me since, even if drinking.

iirc it's a self-perpetuating thing. If acid refluxes up regularly it makes ur stomach valve inflamed and swollen and then it won't close properly, and acid is even more likely to come up. A break with whatever is causing it a while might knock it on the head.

Incidentally, using the antiacids to netralise it (Rennie, Galviston, etc) AND the medication to stop ur stomach making so much acid (Zantac etc) normally knocks it on the head no matter how bad, although I guess probably not recommended by doctors.

Try this website Heartburn-Help Forums - Powered by vBulletin

There is a condition called GERD/GORD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) that can cause heartburn. Have had it for years, although latest theory is I have muscular pain that is causing the majority of my problems.

Have a test for Helicobacter Pylori. Its a bug that can live in the stomach, it can be tested for and cured.

And find out what sort of food makes you bad and try and cut it out. Not easy tbh.

Don't drink stella the next time you're on the boozer, go for export; it's the same strength and something different will be slightly better for your immune system.

Greasy food is okay so long as you have it fresh; don't just nuke every meal else it wont go away and more then likely you'll end up causing yourself long term damage which you wont find out about until its too late.

Don't mean to worry you or anything but the longer it goes on, the more you'll damage your oesophagus and if it goes on for too long without being given a break, your oesophagus can be ripped to shit and your life wont be as pleasant following that (it only happens to people who have had it for years and years but the damage can still be done early on).

Basically, any one of the suggestions to do with healthy food, alcohol swapping/stopping or quitting smoking will ease it quite a lot but I'd recommend going to your doctor and asking for some lanzoprasole if he goes to turn you away; it's a much lesser of two evils saving your oesophagus from damage.

I've off into hospital soon for the exact same problem, got to have a camera down my throat so they can have a look at whats going on.

Had the Heliobacter test and that was negative so then the doc tried me with a few medications (some drink called Mucogel which did nothing, then some tablets, same).

So now its camera time, eep :eek7:

I've had the camera. Its a weird feeling but not that bad.

I had the option of being knocked out for it but I didn't want that. The guy that went in before me was still out cold after I had been seen and he would be like that for another hour, whilst I was back at home.

WTF is heartburn? Ive never had it

Stomach acid bursting a lil up your oesophagus where your inners aren't protected from acid. Not really anyway to describe it...erm...a bit like someones hidden down in the middle of your chest with a lighter. It'll burn really badly for 5/10seconds then die down but the pain is still there. Then a little bit later, pain for 5/10 seconds and it dies down again.

1 in 3 (ish) chance you can get it with a bad diet apparently although with most people it only occurs later on in life.

Odd thing this. I never had heartburn. At all. Ever.

Had a sore belly about 6 weeks ago. Really sore to be honest. Went to the hospital thinking it was my appendix. They were good enough to offer me keyhole surgery to investigate and remove my appendix if it was the problem.

I wake up 4 hours later. They told me I had a perforated intestine. Which they had fixed. They also told me I had some lumps on my intestines which they were'nt too keen on so they removed a meter of my guts just to be on the safe side.

Bugger all keyhole surgery. I got a scar running from my armpit to my scrotum.

They sent the offending section of gut to have it analysed for cancer.

They gave me all kinds of blood tests and cat scans. All of which thankfully were negative.

They have now lost the results of the biopsy tests on the section of gut.

Now ...... I get heartburn like a bitch.
