my dvd drive has disapeared

was playing stalker earlier today and it crashed to desktop, and i got a pop saying blahblah drive error and asked to remove some file i mistakenly clicked ok and and now my dvd rw drive aint showing up on windows it ejects and stuff fine but cant use any burning apps or even get any disc to auto run


HELP!

yep shows up on boot up, stuck an ubuntu live cd in and it runs fine, the prob is in xp some driver or reg file or some thing

This sounds rather like that nasty virus that is often distributed by some fuckwit game manufacturers - I think the specific name for it is Starforce.

dont think stalker has starforce and i make point of staying away from starforce based games.

was suggested on irc that i reboot with ide cable from dvd disconnected then reboot with it connected

fixed my probs

according to http://www.boycottstarforce.net/game-list/ only russian version has it

Rebooting with it unplugged etc. will cause windows to rediscover it and reinstall the drivers. Which is what you wanted.
