Only browsed the first page however here are my thoughts.

I am not religious, I don't believe in a god and I think religion was created by men to have power.

However that being said, if someone want's to wear a religious object be it a veil etc why not let them? What fucking harm is someone covering thier face doing to you?

What does piss me off though is foriegners that comw to the UK and can't speak a word of English, if I were moving to Germany I would learn German before I went. But I suppose its just like the Brits do when they move to Costa Del Sol, a lot of those twats cant even speak English let alone Spanish.

Pricks who read the sun and just spout the working class bullshit that they print annoy me more than anyone who wears a veil. Yes there is a lot of fuss around Muslims for the while, Muslims populate one of the most unstable parts of the world and we have invaded two Muslim based countries so what do you expect?

I couldn't give a flying fuck what Muslims do in thier own homes, but as with ANY religion including christianty I can't stand people preaching to me.

The other day a muslim woman knocked on my door, but I would'nt open it and made her talk to me through the letterbox.

It pissed her off for a bit until I said "Now you know what it feels like ! "

why should we change things just for religious purposes? i know religious people are allowed time at work to pray to who ever. what if that time they use effects others? i.e. they work in an emergency call room, they are a doctor, work in a bank, all sorts of jobs.

religion is by choice, no matter what or how. someone choose to practice religion in their spare time. i choose to play games. i fail to see any difference between the two choices. if i worshipped my computer id be called a crack pot. but religious people are allowed to worship something they only believe is real.

things for spare time should be left for spare time.

you could even say its unfair that im not allowed to practice my hobby at work but someone is allowed to practice their religion.

read over what i said in my previous post, you are practicing your hobby at work (if you are working atm ofc) simply by posting on these forums

Aside from that you still havent given a viable example where someone practicing religion is affecting others,
if they worked in a emergency room or a doctor, nothing is stopping them stop praying and performing their duties if they need to, but i fail to see the difference between someone taking 5 mins to pray and someone who goes outside for a smoke or wandering off for a cup of cofee, seeing as this is also done out of choice

Also whether "god" exists or not is not conclusive, but thats left to another debate

im not actually at work :) so im not practicing anything at work.
i dont have a viable example. it was more of just a question of what if it did? we wont know untill it does effect someone and we see it in the news.

how about i find it offensive for someone to be praying next to me while i work?

exactly its not conclusive. i could say there is a god inside a coke bottle and no one could proove either way. should i then be allowed time off work to worship that coke bottle?

then ask them to pray elsewhere, my example still stands tho. If they are "on call", what difference is it between popping into a quiet room to pray and going for a smoke/cofee break?
However there is a difference in the fact that there is "proof" supporting the theory of a "god" whereas there is no proof (ofc i havent researched the matter so this is at a stretch ^^) that there is a god in a coke bottle. But this is a different debate altogether and i think we should stay focussed on the matter at hand rather than going on a tangent ;)

As i said before if you have it recognised as a legitimate religion in the eyes of the law and go through all the necessary channels you are perfectly entitled to pray to a coke bottle within the guidelines set for you.

but in doing that then you fear the backlash. you may end up being fired or some other rediculous thing for showing prejudice towards a co-worker.

part of it is a different debate. the other part is its down to only what the individual does think. and that essentially it is a 'hobby'. in that you buy things associated with it and do activies. like every other hobby there is.

and finally, i dont agree with that particular part of the law. thats why im kicking up a stink :)

i really doubt you would be fired for airing your view that you are uncomfortable with it. This is exactly half of the issue, people arent expressing what they think to their line managers. Maybe im lucky but i have never been in a situation where i wouldnt be able to air my views if i felt uncomfortable with something. Most people tend to have a seperate room where they can go in any case :) so i dont really think that is a real issue tbh (unless ofc you experienced differently)

Back to the point, in your opinion what difference is there between going to pray and going for a ciggie break?
if you work in IT you are legally entitled to regular breaks from your pc, what you do in that time is entirely up to you, on paper your employer cannot force you to sit in front of the pc for more than a certain time (i forget how much)

legally there is a massive difference. by law religious people are allowed to do what it is they do at work. to go for a fag or coffee break you need to be lucky enough to have a manager that will allow you. i certainly dont and never have done.

but soon you wont be able to smoke at your place of work if the radio is telling me correctly. although by law i thought shelter had to be provided for it.

ye but same is presant in terms of religion, one of my friends used to work at a certain software development firm who even forced you to clock in and out if you needed to go to the wc
As far as i know the religious laws only cover conduct and dress, everything else is at your line managers leniancy (i may be wrong but afaik this is true)

I think the radio has it wrong, you cant smoke inside/directly in front of the building (because of the no smoking in public rule, nothing to do with the business) if the law is passed, and you are right they have to provide a shelter somewhere for you

thats what i thought. begs the question why someone would smoke outside the building when you got a shelter. oh well. i guess its people like that which warrents such a stupid law.

Good Week for Muslim PR

Head Muslim Cleric in Aus - comment on Women who don't cover up:

"If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park ... and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it?
"The cats or the uncovered meat?"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/6086374.stm

What a complete prick. Love his 'taken out of context' line. Funny how there were still riots/protests in many Muslim countries when the Pope did something similar.

According to the Telegraph the cleric has been threatened with deportation. I do hope the Aussies carry out the threat. Have a bit more backbone than or Uk politicians.

Not in situations that can incite hate/sex crimes. Basically he's given every muslim a green light to rape/molest women who don't wear an abaya. I find His comments quite offensive.

you cant have it both ways
Remember the cartoons of muhammad and the hitler cross debates,
If you want to allow things that you know are going to be offensive to be published, then it has to be allowed in all its forms OR offensive material shouldnt be published even if it is in jest.
What would you do if the guy when approached said it was a "joke", even tho we all know its not

Making discriminations like that just pour petrol on a already huge bonfire

Erm? Nothing worse than walking passed some smoking **** in the street breathing in all that shit as if I don't enough to worry about riding 4 miles along a main road?

Smoking should be as activley discriminated against as possible, why? Because it affects others.

How does a cartoon of Mohammed PBUH ;) incite or give griedance to violent behaviour? Just becuase a minority of clerics with there own political agenda against western culture say it was bad and people should protest doesn't make the cartoon racist or inciteful.

It's one thing to poke fun at an icon or make a statement against certain practices of a religion/people. That's the essence of free speech. But, a line has to be drawn when people of influence are inciting others to violent behaviour. If you can't see the difference then sorry.
