Yea, I noticed that. Apparently that software pops up all the friggin time! Not good.
Also you can't burn the music to CD or even MP3 'I THINK' Just something I heard on the grapevine....

or you could just use a free alternative if you're not going to pay for a cd, why would I pay for mp3s, they're shit.

Yeah, it's not like I'd pay for mp3s anyway. Here's my personal theory:
When an artist releases an album, a large majority of the revenues go to the record company/distributors. So in my mind, when you pay for an album, you're paying mainly for the material it's recorded upon, and the privilege of playing it on a CD stereo/walkman at any time with perfectly high quality. The artists then get paid by the record company in return for helping them sell buttloads of CDs. The thing is, unless the artists are highly commercially based, they'll want to get their music across to as many people as possible, and mp3s help them do this. If I were an artist I wouldn't put a price on my music for sure, and would only use record companies (should they want me) to get my music across to a maximum audience. That's what I consider to be the most important factor of distributing music: not the money, just a large fanbase.

Only reason people used Napster was cause it was free, if people have to pay they'll buy the cd with the fancy artwork and stuff on the inside covers, not many people will pay when they know they just have to look a bit harder and getit for free

If it's being played in RealOne or some other crappy bespoke system then it could be downloaded in whatever custom format they like (even encrypted if they wanted to) which means it would be very hard/impossible to convert to mp3.

Even if they can be converted to mp3s or whatever, paying for them, and burning them to CD is a thoroughly stupid idea. The quality would be lower, for the same price?

Isn't this the one where if you stop paying the subscription your downloaded music files eventually "time out" ?
Whatever the case, I find it hard to believe you can decode a music file for listening but not for conversion, the file format will be copyrighted which would deter converter software writers somewhat, but it wont be long before someone distributes a "ripper".
