Mike, that has to be the single best music-related post I've ever read. J00 the man. When I mentioned hiphop, I was reffering to the sort of modern tripe that Tim Westwood plays, if that's any use.

rofl stupid thread this. Again the stupid remark saying that a band needs to change to be great. It is just as stupid as saying music/film has to contribute to the genre. Though a band doesn't need to be great I personaly dont give a fuck what people think about my taste in music, its my taste I like to listen to it.
By the way does it matter whats it called NOOOOOOOOOOOO. What matters is do YOU enjoy it. If not dont say its crap caus its taste.

No it quite clearly said.. "I THINK a good band...."

Opinions rule.

"I" think great bands are the ever changing ones, "you" on the other hand don't... as I don't know you, I don't care what you think.

"I" think you should all shut up and let the thread die, you're all bickering like silly paraplegic twats making a cup of tea.

but we like to argue and be paraplegic twats, thats why we are here :p

As to the comment Tong why do you think bands have to change? i agree over a long period bands change caus they get more experience. But saying that there is also something called staying true to your roots. Changing everything everytime you make a new album is in my opinion rather strange.

but then again this is my opinion :p

oh my god it’s a message board first..... SOMEONE ASKED A QUESTION INSTEAD OF FORCE FEEDING AN ANSWER!!!

As you were so civil I shall answer your query.

I believe that a band should grow together and change with the times, I appreciate its a bad choice (considering this is an Oasis discussion) but I'm going to take Blur as my point in question.

Blur started as baggy indie kids, Good ones mind you, Nice hum able tunes and sometimes touching ballads, They moved along over the next few albums into a more poppy yet still true to the there indie roots) guitar band, Still with amazing ballads, Still sounding great but overall sounding slightly different to before because of the inclusion of some new instruments, New sounds, and New influence. They peaked for the era with PARKLIFE.

Then comes the great escape, it was badly received by the underground indie scene (of which I was in at the time) because it was almost the same kind of thing as Parklife was. But one slight difference which I picked up on, There was a sinister undertone all the way through the album, they weren’t happy pop pickers anymore, they wanted out of the whole Britpop scene. This was I think why they waited so long to do a follow up.

But oh what a follow up, they'd listened to the criticism. BLUR was hard, it was dirty "song 2" is undoubtedly the ultimate fire starter, and also during all this time, you've got damon albarn teaming up with American hip hop producers like Dan the automater and taking influence from them, Influence that can be heard on there last album (of which I can't remember the name) but is a fucked up, half hip hop half old indie with a bit of brit pop innocence thrown in for good measure...

the fact that I can still talk about them with enthusiasm even though I left the so called "britpop" scene when the Verve re-reared its fucked up head makes them a good band.
(The first time btw not the "drugs don't work" era)

Not many other bands can I give that same honor to, The Chemical Brothers being a big influence on me throughout my teenage years means I can wax lyrical about them being great.

The Beastie Boys, I think they're shit a rapping but each album draws from a different era of music, that’s also makes them a great band.

Bassment Jaxx, I been listening to them since the old Atlantic Jaxx EP's and they just keep getting bigger and bigger, and each time they sound more and more original.

This is the constant change I'm talking about...

But anyway enough about music, Whose seen "Battle Royale" how fucking amazing is that film!

The problem Oasis face with respect to moving forwards is that they make a very retro kind of music. How do you take retro music forwards?

I for one arent that bothered if they don;t change much, as I kinda like what they do now. But then I'm a student, so I guess I'm supposed to like them :)

well I still disagree Tong, changes comes with experience, experience can be gained in time. Put that together, changes need time. What is the average time a band releases a cd, a year (dont know to be honest). I think that is a too short period for any real changes. If you look at a band I think was great, Queen, you see changes but they take a long time. Though not too long I just thought about 40 year old people singing about teenage troubles.......
Also how many changes can a band survive? change too much and you will loose the cohesion between band members, and resulting in crap music.

This is of course an opinion but i am a bit bored so thats why i typed it. Just enjoy music caus thats what its for:clap:
