Fruityloops is cheap, try reason 3.0 or something pretty hard but once you get the grip of it you can make really nice things.
Ordered reason to make my own hip hop beats It's inc in the mail now

Audacity is good for editing, dont think you can create on it but you can mix afaik.

Fruityloops is pretty nice, at least first but you kinda outgrow it after a while when you want to do more advanced stuff... I use it occasionally for beats etc, but Reason and especially Cubase (ace program, especially if you have and know how to use a keyboard.) are a lot better, but can be tough to get into when your'e using them for the first time. Still worth the effort of learning because you have so many more tools to use with them.
