as is tradition on the web-shite I sometimes jouro for, we clear our throats of all things jaded, mean and downright boring and cough up a hairball of albums that we laughingly label our "year list". here's mine:
  • ALT-J - An Awesome Wave
  • Nikki and the Dove - Instinct
  • Grimes - Visions
  • The xx - Coexist
  • Silversun Pickups - Neck of the Woods
  • Cat Power - Sun
  • Burial - Kindred (EP)
  • Fanfarlo - Rooms filled with Light
  • Purity Ring - Shrines
  • Of Monsters and Men - My Head is an Animal
anyone else have one?
also: albums I forgot to buy this year: G!YBE, Efterklang, Sigur Ros.

Seriously... Seriously. Bad religion is the song of the year.

Totally agree about Alt-J, fantastic album. On my list would be Mumford & Sons - Babel, Public Enemy - None of My Heroes....., can't think of any more.

Edit - Jessie Ware, Alabama Shakes, Bobby Womack (this is a great album)

I love Mumford & Sons, but I thought Babel was a bag of shit, first 4 songs are decent, rest just drone away.

Put my top songs of the year in the other music thread, but albums would be something like:

The XX - Coexist
Birthmark - Antibodies
Merchandise - Children of Desire
Cloud Nothings - Attack on Memory
Carson Wells - Wonder Kid (I did the artwork for this though... so I might be a bit biased :D)

Then there's a few records I haven't listened to enough to say they're definitely in my top records of the year, but none the less they are:

Toro Y Moi - June 2009
Jens Lekman - I Know What Love Isn't
White Lung - Sorry

Alt-J - An Awesome Wave
Of Monsters and Men - My head is an animal

Top 3 in no particular order.

Lol? You're so new.

Erm, will only add ones that haven't been added already and that I can remember, so that's 2.

Black Sun Empire - From the Shadows
Orbital - Wonky

I'll try and be less shit later. Sometime. Maybe.

Having LOL'd at you before I would probably say that none of these albums are particularly brilliant. The Sigur Ros one is the best of the lot, Efterklang's a bit different and much more of a slow grower than previous stuff, and the GYBE is good but seemingly missing some of the magic.

yeah I've just been told by a mate that the GYBE is 'out there' as I've literally not heard it. Efterklang is as always Efterklang, though I am well pleased with their Piramida project thingy, as well as with SR's Valtarí secret films. I like the media crossings, but as you say something similar, I am kinda in it for the music.

Channel Orange or Trilogy were albums of the year for me.

There aren't many albums I enjoy from start to end.

Also, I enjoyed alot of Kendrick Lamar this year, Good Kid, Mad City is a great album, very lyrical.

I think Frank Ocean is an aquired taste, you do need to sit and actually experience and listen deep to realise how much has been put into that record, chord progressions, melodies, it's well thought through.

Can't believe I missed How To Dress Well - Total Loss. If some of the songs on that record don't give you chills you're not human.

I'm struggling to remember what actually came out in 2012 but #1 on the list is Les Voyages De L'Ame by Alcest.
