Sad to hear you got mugged, hope it doesn't affect you too much in terms of confidence. I've been through simular experiences when I was pointlessly attacked by 5-6 pakistani kids whilst i was on the way to school for a GCSE exam a few years back.

Glad I'm quite tall and I had been doing martial arts for a few years at the time, I walked away with a bust nose and a few bruises, most of them walked away with the same :p My two chicken shit mates stood at the side doing nothing :p

I laughed afterwards thinking how sad it was that there was 5 or so of them, 1 of me and they were the ones running off.

I'll bet right now most of them are claiming the white world is racist towards them, much like the opera thread here too :)

edit: Oh and I take pride in not being racist even to this day, after such experiences.

as bad as it may sound i would recommend one of these for personal protection -

kubaton_silver_point.jpg

no it doesnt make you as bad as those spineless pussies and yes there is a very small chance of someone taking it and using against you. one swift jab into the head or other pressure points is going to disable anyone. ive had one for a couple months now and i do feel safer knowing i have a hard piece of metal at hand when ever i need it. luckily ive never been in a situation where i needed to use it.

I got mugged once lost £10 and that was it i always leave my wallet in my bag or coat and keep cash in my pocket just incase. Being a big person i gave him the tenner and started shouting my mouth off at him that i did not have anything else so he just legged it. Was walking round a a park on my way home did not walk though the park as i though i would get mugged :(

Dunno why but I always wrap my finger into my key ring holder (you know the ring that all your keys are attached too!) and hold my biggest key in my hand like a knife just incase. Anything is a good weapon tbh. Even your phone o_O

Least you wern't hurt, mate got jumped by 3 ****s and ended up in hospital. Sad to hear people have to go to that kind of low, must be desperate.

They are not legal in the UK just so you know.

I got robbed while waiting for a bus once. Didn't get assaulted though. Two guys came over and asked me what time it is. I didn't have a watch or cell-phone (which is what I assume they were after), so told them I couldn't help them. They then asked me €5 for the bus. I reached for my wallet and they took it out of my hands. I asked if I could at least have the wallet back (for my ID card, train annual season ticket, etc). I got the wallet back, with €5 left in it, so at least I could take the bus home :).

Although I've done judo for 14 years, I didn't attempt to fight. I was too shocked to do anything, really. Never expected that to happen. I hope I wouldn't do anything if I weren't that shocked though. You never know if they have a knife or know martial arts too :).

since when? its a piece of metal shaped into a rod.

from the criminal justice act i can only see this -

"(f) the weapon sometimes known as a "hollow kubotan" , being a cylindrical container containing a number of sharp spikes;"

the picture linked is not hollow, but solid.

The police classify them as offensive weapons. Used to have one similar to that, but ended up throwing it away as had no need of it.

Don't forget when using any form of weapon on the whole the UK legal system protects criminals not the innocent so you will be liable to get into lots and lots of trouble for defending yourself.

Glad to hear your alright and no serious injuries involved :)

The bad thing about going round tooled-up is that someone may take it off you and use it against you

But I'm not preaching just making an observation.

If you are carrying a weapon and are prepared to use it you aren't innocent.....

If you try to explore the dark corners of town, always carry a dull katana on your belt to scare them off if you get attacked :) Especially if its full moon, and you get a gang of 5 - 6 people threatening you, draw the sword and do some cool pose with it so it shines in the moonlight, they´ll definately run away. (No i haven´t done anything like it, read it on the internet somewhere)

Yeah but most people that carry a weapon are to scared to use them, the ones that do should be locked up, if you can't fight properly don't even bother tbh.

I nearly got mugged once by 2 bastards. One of them had a weapon and I'm too young to die. I had a new phone on me, about £60 in cash, my bank card, driving license, everything. Obviously, I didn't want to give them this stuff but I didn't really know what to do, so instinct took over and I just turned around and ran. And kept running. I didn't even look behind me, but I did sprinting for my school so I knew that I'd have to be really unlucky for one of these 2 punks to be as fast as me.

I ran myself till I nearly threw up and got to the main road and looked around, they were nowhere to be seen. I suppose they stopped when they realised I might shout for help. Running works, if you are fast enough. You aren't losing any pride either if there's more than 1 of them and they have a weapon.

It's evitable i'm gonna get mugged eventually since my gf's house is past two rough estates on the way to the train station.

I did have three lads asking me if they wanted to see if I could take all three of them on. I just said 'I have a train to catch,' looked round as I walked into the alleyway, saw them watching me and then sprinted my ass off.

But yes, as someone said, I do the key thing too. Just hold the edges slightly above your knuckles so when you punch them, they got four knuckles and four sharp keys into their face.

I'm also hoping to start up boxing too since my dad loves telling me stories of how his mate, who did boxing, took out people twice his size etc.

Sorry to hear you got mugged btw.

Whoever suggested carrying a katana around with them - don't !
(1) If you get caught with it by the police you could be looking at jail time - especially in today's knife crime crackdown

(2) If you don't know how to use it, or aren't prepared to, it could get taken off you and may be used against you. Not nice.

(3) You pull a sword, they pull a shooter. You lose.

The best advice is run away. I've been doing martial arts for 20 years and given the option of running away or fighting, I'd leg it.

If you have no option to fight, no where to run, no other way of avoiding conflict, then you're entitled to use reasonable means to defend yourself. Hacking someone's arm off with a sword will land you in prison.

The best way to reduce your chances of a violent mugging is to be aware of your surroundings, perception awareness, and common sense. If you can avoid walking late at night through known rough areas, do so. Don't flash valuables about. Don't carry large amounts of cash etc etc. Common sense really.

No one wants to get mugged ofc. And all the best advice in the world won't stop it, but if you're careful, keep your whits about you, let ppl know where you are etc you'll stand a greater chance of avoiding trouble.

I've never been mugged. And its not cos I'm a 3rd dan in juijitsu.

If anyone is worried, and would like advice, PM me.

@Bugz I did Thai boxing for a long time, i can take on people twice my size but when it starts to get to twice your number it starts to get difficult, I think 2 is about the maximum you can handel no matter how much traning you have had.

Usually yes. But where i live people don´t go around wavering guns, but there is many gangs around here beating people and mugging. So i´d rather beat some respect into them.

How is beating up somebody that thinks nothing of beating people up, going to help? Chances are, they have been beat up before and probably expect it from time to time as well.

Unless your going to sit them down after you have beaten them and have a nice long chat about how its wrong to beat somebody up, with diagrams of course, then I dont see that working. Well honestly I dont see it working. Violence begets violence. That said, nothing like administering a little summary justice on some punks.

This lad I used to work with was abit of a goth / metal head etc. He was also into swords. So he would often carry a sharp as fook 4ft+ kitanna attached to his back hidden behind his long hair. He ALWAYS wore a long leather jacket. He was a skinny lad thou but you probably wouldnt bother mugging this lad for many reasons. So the story, he was walking home with a few pints on him and he went down a lane for a short cut, some lad popped out with a flick knife. Said the usual "Give us ur wallet and that jacket or I'll stab u", ur man said" you just fucked up" and unsheathed his Kitanna, it shines like a mofo with any light so I can only imagine what the mugger saw a bit light saber being pulled out. The mugger dropped the knife and screamed "oh fuck Im trying to mug the highlander and ran like fook :D".

I've never been mugged my self but then again Im a big dude and I dont walk around dodgy places late if it can be helped. I've done judo for abit and would stand my ground if it were a single mugger but if its a few lads ur most likely gonna get a good kicking so I'd just run :p. Probably while shouting "He who runs lives to fight another day, suckers!"
