I like threads like these.

I guess the idea of a forum is to post and get a response but unless the response we receive is inline with our own opinion or the generally accepted opinion it’s not allowed.

In theory Clown is right, he’s not afraid to go against the grain and say what he feels so fair play to him. But at the same time he knows full well the reaction he will get so is he posting to express his opinion or to wind up others and cause a dispute?

In a way forums are self destructive as they attract the worst possible people to use them, everyone has an opinion and isn’t afraid to say it. Until everyone on the world agrees with them they will argue relentlessly convinced they are correct.


So are we here to convince others or to express ourselves?

There is having and voicing an opinion, which is fine. By all means you are entitled to say it is shit.

But the way you repeatedly posted about how shit the image is was over the top, uncalled for and unecessary. You aired your opinion of it being shit, you contributed - and then you started winding everyone up for utterly no reason. Normally I'm behind you in your posts, but this thread you've just lost it. Utterly no need.

Hmmm, perhaps Callous needed to be a bit clearer about where he was going, cos I thought he was going somewhere else completely

My reading was that Deviantart tends to contain opinions from artists and poeple interested in art (for teh most part) and these forums will attract opinions from people who are interested in computers and gaming (for the most part).

Therefore opinions there about an image are probably worth more to the creator than opinions here.

That's where I thought he was going, but as Callous hasn't been back to give us a map it is still open to debate.

Clown, the way that you put others down annoys people. You stated that the image is shit, as if it was fact, not an opinion.

Everyone knows it is only an opinion, but the way that you do it devalues everyone elses. I don't particularly like the picture, but not to appreciate the work that has gone into it, and the talent required, is just crass. In my opinion.

Clown made two posts about it before it turned into an "argument" (and, y'know, in arguments you tend to have two or more people responding to each other), so he was hardly "repeatedly posting", and in fact Jupitus was the first to make it "personal" (unless you count dysfunction's "yet again" rubbish). And frankly I agree - it is shit. I mean, look:

It would have been less shit if it hadn't been for the fact that the "impressive" bits were clearly down to the "little photophop bluring". Sure, a lot of time's gone into it, but, as callous said, that just makes it sad.

yes, but did you paint it by hand with a difficult to use program? Most people respect the picture because of the difficulty to produce something like that. Sure, it could be done easier, you could fly that helicopter up to the top of everest, but he's chosen to do it the hard way, by hiking, or in this case pixel painting.

Might not be the best work of art ever, but I appreciate what he's done
