As title says, that is my mainboard. I now have a question. I have an antec p160 chassi with 2 coolermaster 120mm fans, one that sucks at the front and one that blows out the back plus one 120mm psu that blows out. My 120mm fan in the back ain't connected tho as i don't have any power outputs slots on my mainboard. Is it safe to unplug the Northbridge Chipset fan and remove it so its just the metal part on it and then plug in the 120mm fan? Or will it overheat? Doing that would both grant me a power supply spot for my fan in the back and remove the annoying sound of a small fan @ 6000rpm :p

Get a molex to 3 pin plug converter, places in the UK like Maplin sell them, you must have them in Sweden! ;)

Not a good idea to remove active cooling from a north bridge, it's generally there for a reason! Although replacing it with a better one may be a good idea, but you may need to use thermal epoxy to fit it.

Or of course get yourself one of those fan controllers - sit in a drive bay with a few knobs on to control the speed of the fans in your system. Got a coolermaster one sitting here spare oddly enough - just don't like it as it lights up silly colours ;). They're nice and cheap too, probably not much more than a molex doubler :)

As was said, never a good idea to remove cooling from a northbridge - especially on more unstable boards such as MSI and earlier Gigabyte; they definately need all the cooling they can get.

First post in a long while, still got no internet at home as BT want £130 quid to connect a phone line. Bollocks to that, don't have that sort of cash :(

update: I removed it anyway and put my temp reader on the cooler. It reaches 33-34 degrees without the fan. So i don't think i will be putting it back anytime soon :)

I have been trying to stress the chipset and was told defrag was a good way. But it has never reached higher than 38 regardless of what I've done :p

ps: WTS: Zalman VF700, how can they sell a card and saying it fits my card when it doesn't :(

If anyone has any other idea how i can stress the chip to tell if its safe to permanently remove it I'd be happy to hear it :)

Anything that uses the northbridge extensively will stress it - games will do the most damage.
Otherwise Orthos, Prime95 or OCCT will all stress test the northbridge as well as the cpu etc.

But I still advise strongly against it as a bonafide expert - any damage caused is your own doing, regardless of any temperatures measured.
