I have over 300 CDs, and countless ones where Ive bought the CD on the strength of one song - only to find the rest of the album is pure shite. Whos the lamers ?

If its a band Im into, Ill buy the CD, if its some pop no-song pile of crap but I like the tune I wont, Ill dl it.

I GOT A MINIDISC TOO BUT THEY ACTUALLY DID MAKE A BIG DEAL ABOUT COPYRIGHT LAWS WHEN IT FIRST ARRIVED BUT LIKE MP3 THE RECORD COMPANYS COULD DO SWEET F A ABOUT IT ALSO HOW MANY OF U WHO OWN A MINIDISC ACTUALLY BOUGHT AN ALBUM ON THAT FORMAT ?????
MOST PEOPLE BUY THE CD ALBUM THEN RECORD A COPY (SOMETIMES CHEAPER AS WELL)

I imagine what record companies are afraid of is that newly released albums will be immediately uploaded to the 'net by a 'fan', and just as quickly downloaded by hundreds of thousands of other fans, without them seeing a penny. Many people still haven't got 'net access, but it won't be long before they will. Computers are coming down in price all the time, and you don't need a high-spec one to surf the 'net.

[When you can get a 'net-ready pc for about £250, that's when internet use will explode i.e. it'll be about the same price as a Sony Playstation, so teenagers will badger their working class parents for one.]

I mean, I one went to a site a couple of years ago where a guy had uploaded whole Monty Python dialogue albums split into small WAV files, for God's sake. With annotations for each little wav. Crazy, baby!

This is a stupid argument.
Everybody uses cracked software everyday of the week and listens to d/led MP3 whilst doing so. If people dont want their software cracked its easy enough to do stop.
As for MP3, proper musicians want people to hear their music and see what it has to say. That is why dance is crap cos it means bugger all. Why not download the music and let the world hear rather than buying a CD that costs more in the packaging department than anything else, with the profit going into the pockets of fatcats at production studios.

(i apologise for the lack of sense this post makes, i am V tired)

This is me signing off.

Just so you know - today I bought : Gomez new album (very cool) and "The Hip Hop years" Double cd. Then I downloaded a Smiths live gig in mp3.

Yes I do REALLY want to know of some python sites.
PS: Python night on BBC2 next Saturday. Yippee.

1. Thanks Magnet
2. Trinity, how DO you stop people cracking your software, if you're a programmer? I'd genuinely like to know (apart from not distributing it at all).
3. Lizzy, I too enjoy Python, but I got hold of some videos of their complete programs some months ago from the local library, and was suprised to see a lot of their jokes didn't work. We're used to seeing the compilations, the best bits.

Every silver lining has a cloud, in my world.

Heh.

Youre right tt. But its like the fast show - 90%of it was about as funny as headache, its was the brilliant bits that made the show, cue gasmen queueing down the street. Just thought Id take this opportunity to mention that this saturday is python night on BBC2 [?] for about 5 hrs.

A must see.
