He's not lying.

I'm on windows 2000 and can quite easily listen to MP3's while playing ANY game, including Half-Life and MOD's. I just use Winamp.

I have a feeling that I tried this on Windows 98 a while back and the MP3's played but the game sounds diddn't and vice versa.

There may be a special MP3 player which does.

Try it :p

The beta version 1.4 has a MP3 / CD player built in to it..

Why would you want to listen to music when you play cs? You wouldnt be able to hear footsteps etc....

As long as one program is using DirectSound and the other is using ... something else, you should beable to play mp3s without hassle? :/

Playing Quake 3 to Daft Punk is a surreal experience.

I use Win98 and find that winamp sometimes overrides the sounds in HL i.e. diables them. The solution to this is easy, use media-player instead, as this works fine on win98. However make sure you leave it on the 'Media library' bit and not on the visualisations thingy cause that saps cpu/gfx power. It's just a shame media player is v.slow at loading lists of mp3s :(

WMP is really crappy. Slow, uses loadsa resources and is just too bulky and awkward to use.
Winamp rules.
Upgrade 2 windows 2000 also :p
