Moving to the UK

Well, the thread title says it all - I'm planning to move over to finish school and then start uni. Gonna be turning 18 in June, and wanna move in July.

And now I have a few q's to settle, and where else can be better than FH?

1a. Will I have problems applying to a sixth form college because I'm 18? Specifically the Colchester one?
1b. Should I get A-levels or IB? I personally like IB more, but what's the public opinion?

2a. Flats... UK prices are insane, compared to ours (Estonia). So, I dunno really... Rent or buy? I'm looking for a nice studio flat.
Buying could be nice because real estate prices rarely drop, and selling the flat after finishing uni might earn quite a nice profit.
2b. How much should I expect to pay monthly for the utilities? (studio flat)

3. Anything else I might have missed, or should know

i'm 20 and doing a-levels, so that's not a problem. there's plenty of foreign students at my college.

if you're planning on going to uni later, do a bit of research to find out what the entry requirements will be and plan your course at college with that in mind.

not a clue about flats/houses etc so i'll leave that to someone else

You should be able to get into university halls of residence. It's the best option for you unless you happen to be loaded.

Ohhhhh sorry, didn't read that you weren't going to start university straight off. In that case renting is the only real option unless that college offers boarding facilities.

unless you are pretty rich, theres no chance of you being able to buy a flat anywhere really. youd have to work a decent job and get your qualifications at the same time to pay the mortgage off.

Most people studying in the UK from abroad are loaded anyway just to be able to pay the Uni fees. We're quite expensive, but our cheapest course is nearly £18,000 and that goes up to £32,000 for the most expensive

Estonia is in the EU now though isnt it?

I don't know specifically for Estonia but all the EU people who are in my year pay the same amount as me, this is before the top up fees, dunno if anything has changed.

As for studying now, any college should except you i would think, 6th forms maybe not. And afaik very very few places even do the IB. Besides if you want to go to a UK University you might as well do the UK A-levels since the application process is geared towards them.

And sure if you are super rich buy a flat but rental prices are getting lower by the day and quite frankly the whole housing market has got to crash and burn sooner or later.

Gonna ressurect the thread

I've got a question to those who live in Scotland (Dundee/Glasgow/Aberdeen, not Edinburgh).

Any secondary schools you could recommend? Specifically those, who accept foreign students

i don;t live in scotland, but i would advise this.

Scottish schools don;t have a levels, they do scottish highers so i don't know how they compare and what entry requirements are for uni's with them.
Buying is always going to be pricey, but depending on WHere you buy, obviously things differ....and you really can;t buy until you've scoped the area and stuff first, so you'll have to rent when you first get over here.
