Mouse Moves on its... own

Um... this kinda put the Shits up me when i seen it happen..

It all started when playin CounterStrike, the Crosshair went Berserk when i lifted the Mouse (Which is an Optical Mouse) off the Table.

Then it started to get more Serious, when in CounterStrike, the Crosshair would just Die, and i wouldn't be able to control the Mouse in ANYWAY possible, i had to quit CounterStrike, totally, but found that it also was locked up inside Windows too (Windows '98).

I would Reset the Computer, and it would be Okay again, but sometimes in Windows itself, the Mouse would fly around the Screen like a Crazy Git...

So i would Reset again, and it would Work fine, and i would play some more CounterStrike, and then the Mouse would die again (Please Refer to second and third paragraph).

So, what i did was, tested the OptiMouse on my other Computer, and it worked fine (well, i never tested thoroughly, just went into Windows and seen if it went Crazy) which it never...

So i put it back into my Main Computer, tilted it on its Side, and totally shit myself...

THE DAMN MOUSE WAS TWITCHING ON ITS OWN!!!!

It was rockin from side to side, and the Light under it was goin Mental, always Flashing....

-------

Does anyone know what this Problem is? Its the same off the Internet so it can't be anyone Controlling it Remotly.....

Either that or my Mouse has a Poltergeist in it...

Anyway thanks..... hope you know what the Problem is...

I would imagine that a visit to the local vet might be a good solution - or take it back to where u bought it from!

Stop taking the LSD Super_Gray... :)

But seriously, is it one of those force feed back mice? They can go bonkers... I know, my sis has one for her laptop and playing CS with it is an art form of shitness.

ps. Have you got the right drivers... etc?

Friend has a dual-optic mouse.

Best thing since sliced bread for flick railing.

Urmmm, flick railing?

You don't need a dual optic or whatever for that.

Anyone old cheap mouse that fits not too big in the hand, with small size buttons does the trick, bang it on a old smooth crusty mouse mat and your rocking.

Iv'e got an old logitech thing, about 5 years old in design, best mouse ever.

Not many, if any could outrail me on a dm server, or in most cases duels either:)

Hmm... i have a NEW problem with my NEW mouse lol... its a MS USB*certified* one... and it only starts in Counterstrike, and effects my system after i quit....

I go into CS, play a LAN Game for about 10mins, next min, my Mouse just dies for about a minute, then works again, then my computer LAGS out (On a LAN Game) (i was told my ping was 300 - and i was the server)

So, my mouse works, then dies, works then dies constantly..

so i quit CS, then windows Pops Up saying "found new hardware -My MS Mouse" which is confusing? because its already installed..? So i do what it says, and installs the already installed USB Mouse, but it still dies in CS and gets RE-Found in Windows (Btw, it also locks up in windows... so maybe my mouse is getting removed by *something* ?)

I have tried the 2 USB Ports which i have available, but both have same problem...

I am falling off the Gaming Wagon, because i am so pissed off with the damn problems
Mouse;
Net Lag;
Cheats;
Better Players than me;
etc;

There is only so much one person can take....

One of my clanmates had exactly the same problem last night, I'll ask her how she fixed it when I get home.

OK, i just phoned my Bro, apparently, its a Bug in windows, and causes USB Mice/keyboard to go crazy...

he told me to download a File/Program called USB Supplement, and it should fix the Prob...

But still ask just incase lol.. i may have one of these annoying Mice

OK, i searched high and low for that Program, but, when i installed the Patch, it said i already had it installed!!

so... i am still stuck.. but i might put Windows Me on tmorrow.

I use a Microsoft Intellemouse web, it has a wheel and an extra couple of buttons on the side which are good for torch and drop weapon, I got this 1 because I got to hear a lot of negative talk about optical mice since they came out and gave them a miss, also at £11 I saved both money and bother it seems :)

well, i like the OptiMouse because it doesnt have a Ball, that Ball is so irritating, because you have to lift the mouse up, and pull back to move the cursor, but with the OptiMouse, its just glide all the time...

But the OptiMice seem to always have more Problems, like, some dirt gettin under the Grooves, which just maybe my problem, so i might just wash the lens with a cotton bud or somethin, see if that works...

Hum, well I got an optical mouse which I've never had any major problems with, it does sometimes move slightly on its own but never very much, not like what your describing. I don't suppose your using it on an especially shiny surface? read some reports about that causeing some potential probs but dunno :confused:

I have a logitech radio mouse, have had it for about 3 years, never failed me, hardly ever needs cleaning, cost £50, no trailing wires. Brilliant.

"I know a mouse, and he hasn't got a house I don't know why I call him Gerald"
"He's getting very old but he's a good mouse"

£5 to the first person to guess which band wrote those lyrics.

By the way, optic mice hate the colour white.

Screws them up big time.

**MOUSE MATS**

As I have a conventional mouse I need to use a mousemat, in the past I have had quite a few, the cloth covered ones are pants compared with the one I use atm which has a thin plastic sheet with a rough surface on top of the spongey bit.

Works well, attracts dirt :)

You see, this is what confuses me... I use a MS Explorer IntelliEye on what I use as my mousemat, white printer paper. I've never had a problem with it, and it's the best surface I've used so far... strange?

It depends on how reflective and smooth the white is. Paper is normally ok, but shiney white plastic is as bad as a mirror.

I use one of those black felt-backed plastic deskpads, the ones that you use between your desk and your paper. Works fine for me, no lint at all.

I think its not that its white, its more that a shiny surface will cast a reflection when light is shone on it, and paper doesnt have a shiny surface

Hmm, i think i may have figured it out, and well, i'm totally pissed off, i had a feeling that somehow, there was a Power Surge sometime (no idea when??) and, this USB Mouse got all the Power right into it, thus meaning its *short circuited*, but all i have to say is, i hate my fecking computer... ARGH do i...

I asked round a mates and he said it was possibly a Electrical Surge of some sort, and OptiMice have 5v's goin thru em, so something with stronger voltages decked it good style...

Soo, its unresolved, my other optiMouse is playin up on this Computer also, but its fine on others... so its GOT to be something which is screwing round with the Power Settings..... but.. what........

With all due respect, thats very unlikely. UK Mains voltage varies from 210 to 250 volts with regularity (although the frequency is always accurate), and any spikes on the mains would be very unlikely to damage components connected to your computer. Your computer's PSU converts AC to DC as part of its function, and while doing that, uses several filtering circuits to smooth any ripples.

Any spikes severe enough to damage a mouse would also likely cause significant damage to other parts of your computer.

It is possible that you inadvertantly disconnected the mouse while the computer was switched on, or maybe the plug was loose, in which case, damage could occur (especially if its a ps2 mouse)

I think its more likely that the mouse is simply faulty, and you need to either repair it, or return it.
