Ok, this bug is driving me absolutely insane now, and i figure here is as good a starting point as any for the solution, if you guys can just help me isolate whats causing it, i can go on to a more extensive search of the peice of hardware/software in question and find a perma fix.
Anyway, this has been happening for a while now. I first noticed it with my Microsoft Inteli mouse, now and again it would just "freeze" and stop functioning , the main light would turn off, and id have to restart my PC. once restarted the mouse would work again (til the next freeze).
Now i assumed this was just my mouse breaking, so i bought a nice new one (logitec MX500) and at least for a while (im not sure exactly how long, this was some time ago) everything must have been fine, because i remember being very happy with my new mouse. then some time later, the mouse suddenly started to act up, it would freeze, and stop working for a few seconds, then suddenly "wake up" and start again. Over time, the pauses that it was "asleep" got longer and longer.. until eventually it started turning off completely, lights dieing etc. i found out around this time that when it died, if i unplugged it and replugged it, i would start working again. for some stupid reason, i didnt link this to the same bug as my old microsoft mouse.. maybe because i had never been able to "fix" my microsoft mouse by replugging it. anyway i got so annoyed i eventually destroyed my mx510. then thinking id had a defective mouse.. went out and bought an mx518.
For a while.. everything fine. then the same bug started happening. last week i got so annoyed i unplugged mx518 and replugged my old inteli mouse, for about 2 days it worked fine, then the bug came back.
I can see no pattern at all in when the mouse cuts out, sometimes i can go for hours without it cutting out once, then it will have "fits" and start cutting out every 5 seconds, forcing me to replug it again and again.
things i have done to try and counter it:
1. tried every single USB slot on my PC.
2. reinstalled windows countless times.
3. upgraded/downgraded motherboard drivers.
4. upgraded/downgraded mouse drivers.
5. tried several different mice.
6. thrown mice at wall.
7. changed USB power saving settings etc
PC specs:
Motherboard: VIA KT4V
Ram: 1gb DDR
Gfx: ATI Radeon 9600
need anything else just ask. good luck :|
