What gets your motivated and how do you keep the momentum once you are motivated..

Remembering back to my old 12hour nights factory days and where I'll end up if I don't do well at uni ;) I'm surprised at just how much that little thought has kicked my arse into gear, especially this year.

very interested to know, lost all my motivation for school now.... some motivational guidelines could be cool :)

Currently just planning to get into a new apartment (this one requires one to study) and get a regular job for a few years... bar half a year off where I worked nightshift at a factory, I have now been going to school non-stop since I was 6... so thats 16½ years... Kindergarten + 9 years in public school, 1 year for 10th grade, 3 years at commercial college, and 2½ years at university, I'm simply just beat...

To be honest it is more like 15½ year, seeing how I've hardly had the motivation to show up this year, which is also why I decided to go do something else

I know this might sound shallow and naive, but the mere thought of achieving a better status in life throu the gathering of "material" things keeps me going atm (a better car, a bigger place, a newer flat tv, a trip to whateveritsname,...)

I know its sad, but well its my current mood :p

You see thats what I'm thinking, if I really am lacking the motivation to do the work then is it the right thing for me? I mean I enjoy the course and I love where it might take me, but its' actually getting down and doing it that annoys me!

I need a 3 year montage I think :(

Music motivates me funnily enough - some good hard metal perks me up endlessly!

when i need to knuckle down and get stuff done i make a list!

yep a list, i write down (with bullet points) everything that needs doing whether its domestic like this:

-laundry
-hoover
-change hutch
-washing up
-phone landlord r.e. invasion of killer slugs

or academic like this:

-do time line for education from 1890 to 1925
-read chapters 8 through 12
-type up notes
-create essay plan for economy essay
-do index cards for leading figures in social reform from 1886 - 1890
-file notes and index cards

then as i get each one done i tick them off, i try to make the list in the order of the tasks to be done but if i do them out of order it doesnt matter so long as they all get done.

I also write my shopping list according to where the produce is situated in the shop rofl so its:

tv guide
fruit & veg
bread
dairy
canned stuff

this means that i dont have to keep to-ing and fro-ing because the last item on the list is back at the beginning of the store lol.

anyway back to motivation, i find the lists help me to focus because its hard for me to be motivated while unsure of what to do, i also create schedules (timetables) which allows me allocated time slots to do these tasks in, so that i dont spend 4 hours going cross eyed reading about social and economic changes in the 1930s when my time could be better spend doing something more urgent.

In addition to these (...ok yes i know im an android nerd from the planet yawn) I also make sure that when i have achieved my goals i do a bit of R&R..&R (rest, relax and reward) so maybe a stroll to the shop to get a cherry coke or watch a dvd, something to clear my mind and so i look foward to completing my tasks and don't see them as a chore, i see them as targets to be reached and it really does feel nice to have a list with all the stuff ticked off at the end, it is a really good way of visualising your achievements because some times if working unstructured you can feel like youve been hammering away for hours and getting absolutely nowhere.

hope this helps, it may sounds totally nerdy but give it a go and then moderate it to see what fits you.

I can't really get motivated unless I get goaded into something.

You see I had a really productive day on monday and did like 10 hours of revision and went the gym in the morning. Then my mates made me go to a comedy night and I got battered and ended up going to a rock club. I spent like £40 that night without actually wanting to. Maybe its not motivation I feel but Guilt? Hmm.. Anywhos managed to start revision again. But still feel abit Iffy! :(

Heres to next week! :(

If you didn't hook up with a rocker chick, then it's "Universal Shame On You", that you're feeling :D
