Most stable way to run 2 TOA clients on one machine?

Athlon XP 2400, 768MB RAM, GF4Ti4600, Win XP Pro.

I finally succumbed and got a second account; now my machine is (all this recent shit with Opentransit's crappy servers notwithstanding) generaly exceptionally stable, but when I run two accounts on the machine I get random LDs on one or other of the accounts. I have them both with the same graphics settings etc, and they run fine apart from this LD problem.

I'm using fullscreen mode and Alt+Tabbing between them, is windowed mode more or less stable than fullscreen? Any tips for keep 2 accounts running smoothly on the same PC would be appreciated.

Oh, and it's not a buffbot. It's a non-affiliated enhancement provider.

:p

hahah *cough*

but seriously.. i ran 2 TOA accounts smoothly by turning off all effects on the BB, i.e setting water to Classic / trees to classic / terrain to classic etc etc. all spell effects off near clip plane... and if my old AMD Athlon 2400+ 512mb DDr Ram can do it so can yours.. although i do have a 128mb GFX which helps a bit i suppose

Aye it will help. IIRC the 1.70 clientsleep command will stop the client that is minimised from rendering the graphics. Thus without this command in 1.69 a graphics card is rendering twice as much with two accounts even when one is minimised. I would imagine a good graphics card would thus help the situation currently.

EDIT: bah.. I use the word 'current' to mean before today ;)

As the others above have said, usually scaling the #Cough# Non-affiliated enhancement provider's #Cough# settings down to bear minimum helps often.

And also i found running bot on a lower res than main helped somewhat EG: Bot account on minimal settings and 1024*768 (800*600 for those with a little slower comps) and main account running 1280*1024 all max settings has been running absolutely fine this past month.

When beginning levelin ze bot i found it much more reliable to have bot in combat mode and move it avery 5 mins or so. Quite a few peeps seem to agree, must be the activity messages to server or something, i dunno :)

Will have to see what /clientsleep brings, hoping the reports of the bot on /sleep being able to stick to main account un-lagged when moving are true, would save alot of time when farmin with my salamander :fluffle:

Lets hope for the best eh, Las

Also If memory is a problem turn off all precaching on the bot client.

I offen run 2 clients in emain, i just put bot on walk into a wall, auto walk. This can ofc also be done toa, tho it can be hard when not close to a city. Else use the /cliensleep command.

I also use the option to close "explore.exe" while running 2 windows. U can do this buy logging 1 acc in, take the 2. acc open it, write the pass and just let it me.
Then press CTRL + ALT + DEL and close Explore.exe This will remove ur opniton to se evrything on ur desktop, but gives alot more cpu power. When u want ur desktop back just do like before. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL , now pick "files" in top and press "run" now right: explore.exe and push enter. Now evrything should work as normal.

Hope this helps for all the ppl having problems running 2 clients

your specs fine, dont bother with looking at ways to reduce load, ive run two accoutns fine on lot lower specs. (though if anything increasing your memeory by 256MB is what todo).

Simply goto task manager in windows and set the priority for both game.dlls to low so the forground application doesnt hog all the processing power and make the background one ld.

I can run 2 accounts on an AMD 1200 athlon, 512 meg DDR, Radeon 9000.

Difficult to actually PLAY both at once, but having them both logged in is no problem, just turn off all effects etc on the bot and park him somewhere very quiet :)

Have found an interesting bug(?) recently (since NF) where logging them in they cannot see each other even when they are in the same place. Each account is running fine and fully playable, but for some reason you can't target the other or select or even see them :)

Seen that bug a bit over recent weeks. You can see some people, but not everyone. Typically I've had problems because I've not been able to see my customer when giving them crafted items.

I think the explaination is your machine not recieving the packets from the server telling your computer about them. Also caused monsters / players to vanish in Avalon City a few times, for whole sections of the group at a time. Hopefully they'll be back to normal when the network is.
