I guess everyones heard about these devices that play a sound from a frequency thats lost around age 25 (due to normal age related deterioration) in order to deter teenage groups hanging around?

What do you lot think - I know if I was a kid I'd feel pretty pissed off if it was used at me but there are other issues.

Guess what - if you didnt screw your hearing up listening to Thrash metal you may still be able to hear it.

Plus it effects everyone below 25 - its an indiscriminate weapon and one that targets babies and up.

I'm a little concerned because they installed one down the road right next to the youngest's nursery and it could get messy if they use it during half terms or summer holidays during the day :p

Theres also another big flaw - I mean these kids dont just evaporate - surely they just move somewhere else that doesnt have one - unless we cover the UK in them its surely no cure?

Plus I know some kids are scum and thanks to a shit legal system there are few sanctions on them but still - the majority are law abiding - it saddens me that they get so much hostility on the basis of age - its like an acceptable form of racism.

If someone said its mostly black kids who are muggers and then produced an anti black kid device everyone would be up in arms but somehow kids dont have the same protection?

I do wonder about an aging population that increasingly demonises its children - its getting pretty fucked up tbh!

do you listen to 5live per chance? they had a feature on the mosquito device this morning.

i've not heard one myself and i'm not sure how widely they're used but it's rather unneccesary - it's punishing everyone under the age of 20ish because of a minority. i'd be pretty fucked off if i went into town only to be confronted by unpleasant incessant noise.

Nah - theres a lot on the Beeb and other news sites - a big campaign 'Buzz off' was launched today.

Liberty - Protecting Civil Liberties Promoting Human Rights : Stamp Out The Mosquito

One other thing that occurs to me is what exactly is stopping old people installing it outside their homes to keep those pesky kids away - at the very least the use of these devices should be licensed somehow?

Another thought that occurs is even if you cant hear it surely prolonged exposure could un-knowingly be damaging your hearing?

I am sorry but these devices are ONLY turned on when absolutely necessary. Human rights, discrimation against the young? What about my rights to living in a safe society and not running the gauntlet when going to my local shop.

This country has gotten far to soft due to the interfering bastards that live in Sproutland. I applaud the government (even if Labour) for not scrapping these devices. Perhaps we can ask Burberry to impregnate their clothes with acid that only eats away the skin of wankers.

I love you.

This device is second only to the shotgun imo :)

How exactly does this give you a safe society???

I dont see this as anything other than a sweep it under the rug exercise - what if the gangs of youths just moved to outside your house?

Are you scared of all teenagers or something?

Though im 20 and will probably be affected by this I doubt i'd be hanging around in one single area for long enough for it to bother me.

Don't get me started. When I was at school I was caned, slapped and shouted now. Today the teachers cannot even raise their voice. It is wrong and WE all wonder where the asbo-wankers-hoodies-tossers come from?

Personally I blame the parents, (bite me if you don't agree). Work it out, discipline starts at home. Accept the blame and fix the problem.

Sigh, today I had a similar conversation with someone my age (less than 40) but I guess it is people of our age that appreciate what we had to endure when we grew up. All those that now disagree are young fuckers who think they know best and that wearing Burberry and being able to terrorise a cornershop is the "in-thing". One word and I think it will be censored by my own rules, "****".

Um, it is only turned on when there is a group of teenagers up to no good. If they decide to park their wasted lives outside of my house I would have no qualms in installing these devices. Why the fuck should I put up with them?

When I was growing up I didn't do it, my kids don't do it. Why should I put up with it?

As for being scared, No I am not, I am scared that one day I will do something that will put me in court only for the purpose of protecting myself.

Exactly. If you are not an asbo wanker it shouldn't affect you.

I can hear these things. They are teh suck.

I would then ask the question, why are you near one of these devices when it has been activated?

To be fair it may affect you whilst it has been activated in an attempt to disperse the chavs. For that I apologise but I believe the good outweigh the inconvenience it causes you.

My neighbour across the street has a cat alarm (same principle). I can hear it when anything moves past his garden.

Then again, I can hear bats, so my hearing is probably quite sensitive to high pitch.

Fair enough, you are not human, so the laws passed in Sproutland don't apply to you.

On that subject can I just rename Europe to "The United States of Europe" and speed the process up ?

Hmm - I read an interview of a shopkeeper with this and he keeps it on from when it gets dark till he shuts the shop - why would you think its only turned on when neccesary - theres not even a voluntary code for these?

Anyway - for those interested in seeing if they can hear it:

Then I applaud him, he is making his shop a safe place to be. Don't question these devices. They only try to fix the failure of the parent.

Why should he not be able to offer a safe place to shop at any time of night? I bet all of his customers do not want to have to face jibes, threats and god know what else whenever they want to buy milk.

Sorry but I have my views and anyone that tries to enforce or intimidate another is a ****. It is that simple.

Its the result of two things - a lack of respect in out society today, coupled with the result of endless child protection laws for the past 20 years, leaving a country where children can do what they want and the average citizen can do fuck all about it for fear of getting prosecuted himself.

What is needed is a few more measures like this to bring stuff under control, and to get the parents under control too.

Then we might , just MIGHT, get someway towards a fair society for everyone.

Fuck the little scrotes.

If I was still working where I was two years ago, I'd have bought one already.

Throd & Deebs have expressed my thoughts more eloquently.

The inventor wants legislation brought it so that it is only used when needed, he says its not supposed to be on all the time.

I blame shooting guns without proper ear protection :p

Nope :)

I blame that too, plus endless Motorhead concerts, plus being 20 years older than the minimum :0

I think it is good idea, i dont think it will really effect anyone else other then the people its aimed at... chavs. Just think if they had one of these at outside the local corner shop(local chav meeting spot by me) and let if off at 9pm if a croud started to gather.

Noone else is going to be effected in the area apart from them. As i doubt these things have much range on them other wise they could cause all kinds of trouble to locals.

I wouldn't trust Youtube. Its heavily compressed and anything you hear will contain many harmonics.

There are plenty of tone generators ont'internet.

Personally I don't mind these devices, although I'd get pretty annoyed if the local shop had them on all the time for no reason. Plus, if you're 70 years old a bunch of lads messing around can seem more dangerous than if you're 35 years old, so theres that to consider. I messed around loads as a lad, but I never hurt anyone or did much wrong - but you can bet some old gimmer would have viewed me differently.

Myself, if they're messing around outside my house I've no problem with going outside and standing up for myself. I've done it before.

Hmm - yeah I think it might be the compression filters at work here - it drops a lot of the high frequency noise which is kinda the opposite of what you want in this case...

Lucky I'm not in charge, I would use up any remaining landmines....although on the serious side I agree with DBs.
