ooh. Video games linked to, lets see now, the planes flying into the WTC, amongst other things. Just to touch on that briefly, I have played flight sims, but I've also been in a two person trainer aircraft with an instructor. Unless big jets are hugely easier to fly than a trainer I do not believe that purely playing a sim on a computer will equip you with enough knowledge to be able to hit a target with any kind of accuracy.

anyway, it's another "let's blame video games for the evil that ails the world" documovie.

(whereas in the era that the speaker was young, many 100's of years ago, kids wanted to be "useful" things? yeah, right ) "what you you want to be little Johnny?" "I want to be an optician mum!" yeah right little John, you want to be an explorer and circumnavigate the globe in a balloon in your heart of hearts and any half decent parent should know that imo.

duh. 30 years ago kids wanted to be racing drivers and mountaineers and firemen. Kids still want to be that stuff. Some kids end up with PhD's, some kids end up in McD's and some kids don't end up anywhere at all. It's the way of things imo. Ah well.

heh tris- I don't know what I want to be. some of the more interesting people I know still have no idea. some guys actually have a clear idea and work towards that and if they're lucky they manage to actually become a fireman or a racecar driver or an optician, and partially I envy them, and partially I pity them.

by day I'm a mild mannered Unix nerd, and in my spare time I play games or ride my mtb or try to get my gf to do sekseh things. Did I want to do other things? Sure, in my nearly 32 years I've done 1000nds of things and I certainly hope I get to do many many other things before I die. Did I find, along the way, that playing games turned me or my friends into a psychopath? no.

ive never known what i wanted to be but i choose a path and im extremely happy with it.

I didn't know what I wanted to do until I was 26 ... now I'm 32 I'm confused again.

I've been interested in being a soldier all my life, I've had the other 'fads' obviously, but I've always been into the army since before I can remember.

Its strange, but I never realised that it was what i wanted to do untill recently. As I say, I was always interested in the idea, but always thought that I'd never be up to the challenge, that I'd hate the discipline side, but in the last year or so I've really changed alot, I think I'd prefer the rigid discipline and structured life compared to a life where nothing is reliable.

I've spent the last 5 years at college on the idea that I thought I wanted to be a programmer of one sort or another, and suddenly I cant stand that idea.

Have computer games influenced my opinion on this? yes. but then so has the TV I've watched, the Films i've been to see, the Music I listen to and the fact that my dad, grandad and great grandad were in the army.

Saying "omg computer games influenced me!" would be ignoring the thousands of army adverts i've seen on tv, the dozens of army recruitment people I've seen or talked to at fairs and open days and the like. I think everything influences us in one way or another.
