Look, just because some people think it's great doesn't mean everyone does.

My flatmates GF has seen more or less fuck all in the way of movies, it's been awesome showing her films she's never seen or heard of before, this may or may not include those involving Trem and/or TDC.

There, I said it.

You're entitled to your opinion ... even if its wrong :)

However I'm not a complete non-critical fanboy. Oldboy has some great stand-out scenes but overall Sympathy For Lady Vengeance is the better film.

You have confused the first and third films into one title there, good work.

one of the things that makes the original so good is that you dont really care what's going on anyway. you only need about 5 of the lines translated, everything else is obvious or redundant.

oh and that side on corridor/lift fight scene is my favourite fight scene in history. it's amazing.

Never heard of it so, can't really say. Thinking the remake is better then an 80s version since old movies rarely hold time :p

Oh, don't know if it's made in the 80s, just a fiure of speech.

Because it's such a special film. Everyone I know who's seen it is almost in a different world after the first time they've seen it. It's unique, vibrant and highly stylised.

There's also really, really important elements to the film that are culturally specific, and losing or reworking those elements will significantly alter the dynamic or meaning(s) embedded in it.

This. Nail, head, critical hit.

Another shitty remake to come next year: The Woman in Black, with Daniel Radcliffe in the lead role. Originally adapted from a book which was then adapted for the theatre (which is incredible) and then for TV in the 1980s (forget when exactly, haven't seen it) and now being remade as a film. The thing that irks me about this is they have changed the plot quite drastically, which is totally unnecessary as the original is a brilliant story. They have even changed the ending in such a way as to pretty much change the entire point of the story. Whhhhyyyyyyyyy??? :(

Women in Black is awesome in the theatre, I went years ago and got to go back stage and sit in the rocking chair, was freaky!

Ha, sick! We saw it last year and some parts were so jumpy, I was really amazed how well they pulled it off. Freaky story too, the ending still makes my toes curl.
